You can't save them all! Do you know Elijah Pittman? How do you know that game meant nothing to him? Have you lived a day in his life or any of the kids you are referring to in your quote? Let's dig up the past and turn this into another negative thread! If you read the paper...nothing is ever swept under the rug in Covington. If it isn't "History" bashing the system on here, the paper will figure out a way to say why Coach Booher was a bad choice. I am sure you would be welcome to spend the day as a Bulldog so you could see the changes "down there" at Holmes. You are being a Gatorade....hatorade....Holmes success over the years is really eating at you! Good luck Coach Booher! History, you better work on your information because it is far from accurate!

 

While I have never spent a day as Elijah Pittman, I do know him, and believe he acted childish after the regional loss to Newport. I never said a bad word about Booher, as I do not know him. Actually I rooted for Holmes so your judgement is misplaced. Read some of my posts. I appreciate Holmes success, and they have won one state championship. I have a problem with people that put on blinders and won't criticize bad behavior regardless of the school.

Booher is a terrific coach. Holmes should be very happy to have him. It will sure make NKY hoops even more exciting!!

Folks, just want to warn those of you flirting with crossing the line with rule #2 and rule #9 in this thread. Those rules state:

I believe with what they lost everyone believes they were going to fall off dramatically,even Coach Henley. But good luck to the new coach hopefully they will not fall as bad as most think they will.

They will win with his style because most teams in NKY can't handle full court presses and Holmes will have the athletes to run his system.

For those who think Booher is going to struggle with the transisiton from eky mountain basketball to coaching inner city kids, you really need to read the full article of the following Q&A done between Coach Booher and Ryan Ernst of The Enquirer:

 

Q: So, you're the new coach at Holmes. What do you know about Holmes basketball?

 

A: A lot of people think I'm from Eastern Kentucky, but I'm from North Hardin. I was on some pretty good teams in the early '90s and we came up and played in the Famous Recipe and that was my introduction to Holmes basketball. So I know about Dicky Beal and all the great coaches and all the tradition.....

 

.........Q: You're coming from the mountains of Eastern Kentucky to the city of Covington. There probably aren't two more different parts of the state. Are you ready for the transition?

 

A: I told them in the interview that North Hardin is similar to Holmes, except bigger. When I coached at North Hardin we went to the final four. When I moved to the mountains they called me a city boy. They told me mountain kids were different. But we were able to have success in a community I didn't know and that didn't know me.

 

Pretty good read. I also like the fact that Booher mentioned he had college coaches telling him he needed to keep Wimzie on board before he even accepted the job and that both are committed to bringing that fast pace style to Holmes.

What makes you think they cant handle fullcourt presses? Seriously, if you cant break a press then you shouldnt be playing HS ball. The press is killer in 5th grade AAU but once kids grow and get stronger and can throw over top of it then its a matter of coaching and execution. When kids start doing their own thing and not executing then it makes a press very effective.

 

Holmes' press will be a tough thing to deal with but saying nobody in NKY can handle a press is ridiculous.

I said "most", not "nobody" would be able to handle the Holmes press. There are many teams I've watched over the years who are winning or close going to the last 5-6 minutes of the game when a team with a lot of quick kids start pressing and turnovers are the norm and not the exception. So, IMO, MOST teams won't handle a full game of pressing. If you don't agree, that's fine, no hard feelings.:thumb:

I think one big factor in pressing the entire game is fatigue. Holmes will have plenty of bodies to stay fresh. While many teams will be able to handle the press for a while, I think fatigue will lead to turnovers over the entire game. I don't think there are many teams in N. Ky. that play more than 7 players in a game.
