By the way, I think Booher will do a good job.

I never really knew what Henley's coaching style was, but I did know he had some very talented kids on the floor. I do think Booher will have to coach a little more because I just don't see the underclassmen having the combined talent level of the top two from 2009 and the big three from 2010. If they can run an up-tempo game for four quaters, I'm sure the kids will enjoy playing for this coach and success will come.

Relax Walter you are associating "inner city" with something bad. All I was doing was pointing out a fact. You have mountain folk and you have inner city folk. You have bad kids in the mts and bad kids in inner city. However, don't tell me that being from the inner city is the same. Holmes has always had to deal with the negative connotations that come with the type of kids that are enrolled there. The point is will Booher be a good fit and get the best out of the kids at Holmes. From what I hear the best players at Holmes generally don't even suit up but they certainly do at Randolph park.

Furthermore, Holmes is the school in Northern Kentucky in basketball that puts all others on edge-you guess the reasons. However, a player or two on their team acted down right silly after their loss to Newport in the Region final, and while all try to downplay this and act like it's okay-it is not. If another team would have carried on like that against Holmes it would have been equally dispicable. That game showed me that things really aren't all that different down at Holmes after all. And don't put me in the hatorade group as I truly like the Bulldogs and respect Henley, Wimzie + Madrick, but that incident (and others I am aware of) took place without repecussions and I don't think that teaches the kids anything.

Congrats coach Booher, it will be interesting to see his style of play against others in the 9th Region.

Other NKY schools should be really excited IMO. Holmes tried running for years and were mostly considered under achievers until Henley slowed them down and taught them good half court man to man defense. Holmes can run and run all they want in the regular season and some teams will even run with them. But when the post season comes around and everyone slows them down and shortens the game and every posession becomes important they better know how to play slow. Other teams certainly will.

NKY better look out for a new type of basketball! Finally a head coach comes to NKY with a push the ball type offense and full court press defense. With Holmes being a guard heavy team over the next 2 or so years, I think this is the type of style they need to play in order to be successful. Only time will tell though.

Those were great games, and I liked Reynolds style, but was disappointed he never won a state championship, although many say 1978 was "lifted" from him.

I get ya Walter, but that game(all-star) means nothing. Very similar to incidents that happened before with other players. As you said not for this thread, but one thing I believe is clear, when the punishments are not meted out for all to see it is easy to say they are swept under the rug, and in one high profile case, unfortunately additional misdeeds ended up in a prison sentence.

You can't save them all! Do you know Elijah Pittman? How do you know that game meant nothing to him? Have you lived a day in his life or any of the kids you are referring to in your quote? Let's dig up the past and turn this into another negative thread! If you read the paper...nothing is ever swept under the rug in Covington. If it isn't "History" bashing the system on here, the paper will figure out a way to say why Coach Booher was a bad choice. I am sure you would be welcome to spend the day as a Bulldog so you could see the changes "down there" at Holmes.
