I was wondering the same thing.......

I said from the start that many top coaches would apply and Holmes would hire an experienced head coach with a strong winning track record. That is why I never expected Sullivan or Wimzie to get the job. Booher has the type of resume I expected the next coach at Holmes to have.

Has he ever coached the type of players Holmes has?

 

 

Gonna be a totally different ballgame than with the mountain kids, but good luck to Holmes and the new coach.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Holmes can do with playing a more up tempo game, full court pressure and an animated coach on the sidelines. Maybe we won't see as many of the 48-32 scores of the past few years. I'm disappointed that Brad Carr did not get the job. I'm not sure how much of a real shot that Brad and Sully got. Anyone have any insight on that?

NKY better look out for a new type of basketball! Finally a head coach comes to NKY with a push the ball type offense and full court press defense. The old "slow it down" walk the ball up the court, teams better watch out. ie. Ryle, Boone, BB, St. Henry, New. Cath, Cov. Cath. Dixie, etc. For the teams in NKY, playing Holmes will be like playing teams from Louisville and Central KY!

What are the feelings of the SV community? Sad for the loss, happy for the coach?

 

I don't believe he was from the area, so they can't complain much about his leaving. I'm sure they are saddened that he would leave, but Shelby Valley has become THE SCHOOL in the mountains. I don't think they'll have a hard time attracting candidates.

I believe he was considering the Bardstown job and once he got the offer from Holmes he pulled his name from consideration and hence Bardstown is expected to name Boo Brewer as their next coach today!

Coach Booher will do a great job with kids from any background. He's not from the Eastern KY and he was able to get through to those kids and he'll do the same at Holmes. I am proud to know him and would let my child play for him in any sport at any any school.... he's that good (Coach, not my child...lol)

You know, I get tired of the whole "inner city" label. Just because the kids are inner city doesn't mean they don't work just as hard as other kids from different areas of the state. Anyone who knows the kids personally on this coming years' team knows that they're all high character, first class young men.

 

Let's not forget that after Holmes won the state championship last year, a woman from an area in CENTRAL Kentucky took the time out of her day to let Linda Jackson know how respectful ALL of the Holmes kids were that she saw in a restaurant while having dinner. The coaches, teachers, and administrators at Holmes are all trying to teach these kids how to be young adults and I feel that Coach Booher will do the same thing. His style will get the players excited to play for him and you'll see the Holmes tradition continue.

Holmes could have Pat Riley coaching it doesn't really matter who's there. The talent level of the last two senior classes is what they have thrived on. I'm sure the Holmes fans are excited about something new there, but the other area schools will be just fine with how they choose to control or manage their game. Press breaking is possible.

The talent was there but if you notice over the past 4 years, Henley adjusted his coaching style to each class which made them successful. Booher will be able to do the same thing this year with a deep guard oriented team. His full court pressure will fit in well with the personnel on this years' team. Look forward to talking to you more this basketball season.

I don't think anyone was taking a swipe at the Holmes kids; just acknowledging the fact that the Holmes job can sometimes present a different set of challenges than what many Kentucky coaches are used to dealing with, mostly because kids at Holmes often grow up with a different set of challenges than what most other Kentucky kids deal with.

 

On this angle, I think Booher will do great there. He grew up in Radcliff, so he won't be as blindsided by the challenges at Holmes as some folks might think.

Wasn't meaning any disrespect to Holmes players, I'm sure they're good kids as well as mountain kids but they are differences in culture..etc...Ritchie Farmer had a hard time fitting in when he went to LExington, Pitino needed a translator to talk to Farmer.
