No idea if this is correct or not, but I'd heard similar claims this season as well. Guessing it has to do with Coach Code being a no nonsense coach that demands discipline and a team first attitude, not a "watch me pad my stats" mentality?? I think it was a big change when Code took over at Campbell, and a new sheriff came to town. Not all kids are thick-skinned enough, dedicated enough, or flat out mentally tough enough to play for a disciplinarian (I've seen it first hand), and some chose not to survive the change in culture; while others may have "heard it through the grapevine" and chosen to take the easy road & not even try out?? I do know that his (and those like him) system and methods work (and were working at CC), if allowed the opportunity to instill the work ethic expected in his kids. Sadly the mission was cut short in this case??

 

Once again, everyone wants to blame the kids or their parents. I think Coach Code is a good coach. But no one on here thinks that it is possible that he is still learning as a head coach, and may have made some decisions during his first three years of coaching that he wouldn't make in his next three years. This could very well make Coach Code a better coach.

That's exactly what I'm talking about, your opinion is that the players that did not play whinned about it. I never heard any of the boys whining, not once. They made their choice and moved on. Their parents never blamed anyone or complained about the coach that I ever heard, and I know them pretty well. The parents I know wanted their children to play. There was not a problem with playing time, or the coach doesn't like me. There was something wrong though, when three of your better players choose not to play. Sometime personalities just clash. Why is it always beyond the scope of reason that there may be underlying problems that are no more than growing pains as a head coach.

 

Then what was the problem? If they really wanted to play, they would have played. There are kids in every high school in the state that could play on their high school team and choose not to for one reason or another. Just because some kids don't play does not mean there is a problem with the coach because if that is true, there is a problem with every coach in the state in every sport. If the kids are ok with not trying out and the parents are ok with it, then it isn't a problem, right?

My experience is that there are a bunch of kids who don't want to play and do not want to tell their parents that cause they don't feel their parents will accept their decision.

You actually hit on a pet peeve of mine with this one. It irritates me to no end when a player quits a team or doesn't try out for a team because of the coach. Every one of us has worked a job or participated in some activity where we did not like the person running the activity or the manager. So why do we let a high school kid quit or not even try out for a sports team because of some coach related perception? If one of my kids wanted to quit a sport because of this reason, I would tell them it is clear they now have the time to go get a job. Let them go to work in the real world. If they aren't going to learn work ethic, how to take orders from a superior and how to function in a tough environment through sports, they can learn it in the real world of employment.

Bob Jones made a great statement in the paper today. The firing of Coach Code was done by the Principal, the Associate Superintendent and Baby Huey. The Asscociate Superintendent has an up and coming player and felt Coach Code was not good enough for her son. The Pricipal is a pawn in Strong's court now, but rumor has she will be gone next year. The Superintendent has a contract through 2012 and looks only to favor people that had a connection with him when he was at Pendleton.( Just ask the coach that should have been fired for texting girls, he still has a job).

 

Campbell County needs to cut the heads of the ones at Central Office and until that happens, it will be a revolving door in a three ring circus.

Will any high profile names want to land Campbell? Considering they seem to have a reputation of removing coaches when ever they please.

You make it sound like a coach can't step over the line and make a kid not want to play for him without coming back and making it sound like the kid has problems. I don't understand why everyone is so dead set in their opinion that this or any other coach can't be wrong from time to time. I never said he deserved to be fired over it. I like Coach Code. If this coach or any coach doesn't better learn how to coach, talk to, and get the most from his players, as he grows as a new head coach. Then he is cheating himself. Your boss would never be allowed to talk to you, like some coaches talk to our kids. I have set at many Highlands football practices waiting for the field so my son could play in the Ft. Thomas youth football . I have never seen a Highlands football coach scream, cuss, and belittle their players as some other coaches do. Just my opinion, Highlands does OK in football without it. And for you to belittle top students, in sports and the classroom and their parents over something you apparently know nothing about. Doesn't seem to me to be very reasonable. I wish Coach Code the very best.

Odds are they quit because they couldn't handle the type of coaching he did.... The problem is with Campbell County, not Coach Code...

I'm not trying to paint with a broad brush, I know kids who graduated from CCHS who were mentally tough, and if those kids were still around, this wouldn't have happened.. However, Coach Code had NO problems at Brossart. When he was there, he wasn't even the toughest coach. He refused to even curse. Does he push you? Absolutely. But it seems like kids from CCHS are just a little too soft...

The tone of this thread is doing the kids of Campbell County no good. They read the comments on here and it is doing more harm than any good that can come out of an anonymous adult venting on an Internet forum.

Good point, lets get back to who we think might be the nexst CCHS coach. I think they stay within the school and Sean Maddy gets the nod.

Why not a coach with HC experience?? If Boone or Conner (similar sized schools) opened up would they be looking to a freshman coach as their savior?? No knock on Coach Maddy, but its a long way from him to say a Coach Carr at this point?? Thinking they may be setting their sights a little higher??

Probably right but you gotta be a HC with some big ones to come to CCHS. I was just thinking that after they offer a few HC's who turn them down I am thinking they will be forced to go within. I should have been more clear on that. LOL

Who ever they hire better be offense oriented and not defense oriented. I hear a lot of parents complaining that Code was not any good because they would only score 8-9 points a quarter. I always heard offense sells the tickets, defense wins the games!
