Chad Lawrence is being recruited by D1 schools just shows he's one of the top dawgs!

 

Simon Kenton head coach, Jeff Marksberry, confirmed that quarterback Chad Lawrence, defensive back Sage Powell and linebacker Austin Baldwin are starting to draw D-I interest.

 

Lawrence is attracting attention from Ivy league schools and Southern Conference schools, espescially Wofford. He is 18-3 as a starter for the Pioneers.

 

Illinois was in Independence last Thursday to talk to Baldwin and Powell. Powell also gets the first shot at replacing, Miles Simpson at running back.

Well as stated before, Hempel fills the physical stat sheet. He is a very big, stout individual. His runaway speed is not great but i bet he could get out of the pocket in a rollout just as quick as anyone. His throwing ability is a work in progress but you can't teach the previously mentioned attributes.

 

West, IMO, was a better QB last season...but he was also a year older. I don't believe West had the skill set that Hempel had at the same age level. West's short ball is great, but long ball was not as consistent. The offense was solely based on his ability to throw short, extremely accurate passes (slants and screens). I think he will struggle to see the field at UC but could have been an extraordinary DIII player, kind of like Stellman. But as a HS QB, he was as good as I've seen since Diehl, IMO.

 

That is not true!!! The reason he threw so many short routes was because he is so effective at the deep ball. Teams would consistently take away the deep routes and give the underneath short routes. Most those short routes were checks made at the LOS by West who had the freedom to check to any play at anytime. He would recognize fronts and coverages and check to the appropriate play. West called at least 50% of the offense from the LOS.

 

What hurt West, IMO, was not going to a lot of the qb exposure camps.

 

We will have to wait and see at UC.

West seemed to do OK against us with the long ball his Jr season. After comparing his stats from Jr to Sr year, not much of a change. 2008; 8.3yds/pass and 13.5/completion. Sr season 8.9/pass and 14.1/completion.

We'll agree to disagree. Unless you can show me statistically to back your belief, i will not change my own. I did not intend to take away from West's or Conner's accomplishments because he was great for that school. I was just stating on what i felt about his ability. When i saw West play, he often overthrew deep balls. There were not very many designed rollouts and he did not throw accurately on the move. But once again, I do think he is a tremendous talent.

I think you two are having some fun here but I will say Towles is well suited to play QB at Highlands. Their passing game is a vertical game and Towles throws the long ball very well.

 

Style wise, the Highlands player most similar to Pike is ... dare I say it ... Lorenzen. Pleeease .... don't jump down my throat and say I think Pike is as good as Lorenzen. I am just saying that Pike's style is like Lorenzen's.

 

I've never seen Pike play, so I'm just asking. Does he have Lorenzon's arm strength? That's what separated him from Guidugli, O'Toole, and all the other good QB's that have come out of here.

He has a strong arm but nothing like Jared's.. Jared could throw from the 50 thru the goal posts on his knees..That is a pretty strong arm..:scared:

I agree. I don't think we'll see anyone with Jared's arm strength for a while. I remember watching him warm up before games down on one knee at the 50 and just flicking it into the endzone without much effort.

Threadjacking here, but I watched him play our JV as a Soph and he threw a pass, rolling to his right across his body, that went 60 yards in the air. It was effortless. I grew up playing against him in basketball, and had never seen him as a football player type. I quickly bought the hype.

Unless he falls on his face in the next two years he's going to have lots of interest. Remember Schoenfeld from Cincy X a fews ago? The kid from Moeller last year? Teams love big qbs and Pike is a BIG qb.
