If Pike played for HHS, he would be playing TE. Without a doubt. He is not and will not be as good as Towles....of course this is only my opinion

Well as stated before, Hempel fills the physical stat sheet. He is a very big, stout individual. His runaway speed is not great but i bet he could get out of the pocket in a rollout just as quick as anyone. His throwing ability is a work in progress but you can't teach the previously mentioned attributes.

 

West, IMO, was a better QB last season...but he was also a year older. I don't believe West had the skill set that Hempel had at the same age level. West's short ball is great, but long ball was not as consistent. The offense was solely based on his ability to throw short, extremely accurate passes (slants and screens). I think he will struggle to see the field at UC but could have been an extraordinary DIII player, kind of like Stellman. But as a HS QB, he was as good as I've seen since Diehl, IMO.

 

I believe Nick West would have had a great shot to get an offer at Central Michigan had coach Jones stayed. Wasn't CMU high on West? Didn't the familiarity of West from coach Jones give him the opportunity to play at UC? I really hope it all works out for him at UC, I think the kid is a gamer.

Hempel from what I was told looked good at Ohio State last week. This wasn't from some clueless Rivals or Scout expert, but was from some of the actual participants.

He isn't big enough to garner any D1 attention.

 

This is the sad but true fact. As always, the voice of reason from SK!! But, size means nothing at the high school level and Chad is a very good h.s. qb, winner and leader. Any team would be glad to have him.

On the JV..:clap::clap: I would take Towles over Pike at this point. Towles took the Birds to a State Championship last year with little experience playing qb. That in its self shows you what kind of talent this kid is..:banana:

Style wise, the Highlands player most similar to Pike is ... dare I say it ... Lorenzen. Pleeease .... don't jump down my throat and say I think Pike is as good as Lorenzen. I am just saying that Pike's style is like Lorenzen's.

I agree that Pike has a lot to prove on the field in games and all comments, including mine, are speculation. Having seen both play, I think Pike's size and strength, like Lorenzen's, enable him to make plays that a lot of other QB's can't. I am interested in seeing if he can do it in varsity action.

I agree I just hope his conditioning is up from last year. He is a kid that change a game but he will have to be in great shape to do this. I noticed last year he was a little tired and he was just on defense. I would assume his dad has the right people in place. I just can't wait to see all these kids and get the football season going.

After reading the post about the Qb's it made me realize how many of the QB's mentioned ( plus a couple ) that CovCath will face this year. The following are all listed on Rivals and/or Scout as D1 Prospects. Pike (Dixie), Towles (Highlands), Hemple (Ryle), Kummer (La Salle) and Bolin (Lexcath).

 

Although I have not seen him mentioned as a D1 guy is the returning yardage leader in NKY Kramer(Campbell).

 

That list doesn't include Hightchew (NewCath) and whatever stud St. X puts out there.

 

That is a whole bunch of top notch QB's to face in one season. I hope the DB's and Dline are in good shape this year!

Pikes win loss success will be determined by the talent around him. Just because you can't win all of your games, it doesn't mean you can't be a good leader. A win/loss record doesn't tell the truth about an individuals personal talent, especially at QB. Receivers drop perfect passes, rb's fumble, linemen miss blocking assignments. It happens, and especially in high school football. Put Pikes talent alongside 10 other positional DI talented recruits and I believe he will do just fine. The schools are looking at PIKE, not the other 10 players on Dixie's offense or who won the game. It's time to put away the haterade.
