He can verbally commit. You can verbally commit anytime, I believe a certain past Tenn coach offered at 7th grader, who in turn "verbally Committed".

 

The reality with D1 football, is that it is ALL verbal until the signing day of your Senior year. There is no early signing date, so until you sign your LOI in February, everything is Verbal.

 

But commiting doesnt mean anything. Many players with offers never get faxed that letter of intent. A lot of time schools won't give them consent to verbally commit to them because they may be the second third or fourth option. Some players try to commit without the consent of the college's coaches, and you notice the player later in the recruiting process decommit because the school never gave them an actual commitable offer. On the surface it looks like they decided to go to another school, but in reality the school didn't want them.

 

And an actual commitable offer means that the school will actually honor the scholarship to that player or at least send them the letter of intent (Sometimes they do not qualify for one reason or another Academics etc.) . Being offered by a school no longer means that they can actually accept the scholarship.

I agree. I would like to hear more about Kremer. He had big numbers last year but we don't know much about him.

 

As to other QB's who may be sleepers, I would say whoever QB's at CCH is a good candidate to be a sleeper. Erpenbeck came out of nowhere last year and the same could happen again because of the quality of the program and number of players on the roster. Also, Lloyd's QB's often put up good numbers in their offense so is there a sleeper QB on the Juggs' roster? Anyone else?

 

I know Lloyd's QB will be Dexter Smith. Not your prototypical Lloyd QB he's only about 5'9 so maybe there will be a change in offense. The upside for Smith is he started a game or two this past season as a freshman and will only be a sophomore next season so he will continue to get better.

I'm not trying to throw Zeke under the bus or anything but he didn't really play QB at all. Ryan Wilson was the starter. Zeke played OLB and wasn't that great. I don't think he's a top 5 guy.

No-one has said Zeke played QB on the varsity level. He started on the JV squad last year, and he was the freshman QB the previous year. He's only played QB for 2 years, but has all the tools to succeed at the varsity level. He has great size and arm strength.

 

Defensively, he struggled at OLB. He wasn't quick enough and struggled in space. He's more suited as a DE on the defensive side of the ball IMO. If he doesn't make it at QB at the next level, he'd make a fine TE. He has very soft hands, and again, great size.

The only thing is that this boy is not going to be 6'5" and needs to grow a lot in a hurry to even be 6'. He definitely has ability, but there are numerous kids that can play in the classes above and below him. He most definitely will not be a one man show.

I have read through 4 pages of this stuff and find it rather amusing. I have no doubt that Zeke Pike has offers from multiple D-1 schools and my bet is that they are not as a quarterback. For one he has great size and quickness which will attract attention in and of itself irregardless of his age. Second, his father played Division 1 football and was an NFL'er for a number of years. This leads me to believe that this kid is being recruited by numerous schools as an athlete. Whatever college he chooses will mold him into the player/position that they feel he will be most successful in. Reminds me of Derek Smith of a few years ago and Tyler Grubbs this year. Football players that excelled on the basketball court which gives a pretty good indication as to their athletic abilities.

 

As for Towles, I would say that he definitely has D-1 potential if for no other reason than because of his size. Again it does not mean that he will be a quarterback in college at a D-1 school.

 

Agreed nice post. Smith, Grubbs, Towles, and Pike all have size and played both sports very well. If you are athletic, have soft hands, size and decent speed many D1 programs will take a flyer. How often do you see pro teams taken a flyer on basketball player with 1 year experience as a TE. It happens

Instead of congratulating Pike on having 5 offers as a sophomore and the most D-1 interest than any other player IN THE STATE in his class, I keep hearing why he won't be good, his age, his Dad, he wont play QB in college, "does he really have an offer" among other things. I think that is sad!

Happens all the time. Add in that we rarely hear of sophomores getting offers and you've got yourself a recipe for skepticism.

Some players get D1 offers and still decide to play at Georgetown , I think many factors , other than D1 offers , determine what college they attend. Brandon Roller had D1 offers and is going to Georgetown , does that make him less of a football player or student ? I don't think so.
