When Lorenzen was a sophomore, Dale constantly said he was one of the 5 best quarterbacks in the state, and while he didn't start, he sure did play, but then the Bluebirds were blowing people away. Dixie didn't play Pike at quarterback for whatever reason, but it certainly wasn't because they were blowing people away. Much different circumstances from a historical perspective.You might be surprised what I know and the only statement I will agree with you on is that Pike may be a D1 player, but doubt that it is at quarterback, and his on field and on court actions will have to come to an abrubt halt. He isn't nearly as good as you and he think he is.

 

Apparently quite a few college coaches think he is good and that is all that matters in this discussion ... not how good you, me, Pike or anyone else on here thinks he is.

 

As to his actions, I think he is a highly competitive young man who has often let his desire to win get the better of him - like a lot of young athletes I see. However, like most young people, I believe he is maturing a lot and will handle himself much better going forward. Unfortunately, his past behavior has caused many to look unfavorably on him as is evidenced throughout this thread and in other threads on here.

Yes Wilson was the QB and he threw for 2500 yards and rushed for 800, he (Wilson) did not play defense which anyone who watched the Colonels knows that is where they struggled.

 

Being a History person you should realize that neither one of the last two D1 QB's in NKY, started at QB as a sophomore. I am not saying he will be a D1 QB but he will be a D1 player as I trust the college coaches that are assesing him to know what they are looking for a whole lot more than you.

I would imagine he is referencing Lorenzen and Guidugli, and both did not start at QB their sophomore year at Highlands, but both played plenty at QB during their second season due to the Bluebirds winning by large margins at halftime.

 

You are absolutely right that West and Hempel are both D-1 players or soon to be players at that level.

Conner Hempel has received a full football scholarship offer from Western Kentucky University who has officially joined the Division 1 scene. He is also being heavily recruited by Indiana, Toledo, Northwestern and Louisville. He is 6'2" barefoot, weighs 210 lbs. and bench presses 300 lbs. Recruiters are surprised by his size when they see him in person. He will receive more offers.

Side question what do you think is the main difference that College coaches see in Hemple that he got a D1 offer and West who did not. I think they are very similar and would give the passing edge to West. (Could be I have seen him throw it more)

Its hard to rank someone who hasnt taken a varsity snap as a starter yet. I think he will have a great season but when he faces Highlands it wont be like facing Scott.

Well as stated before, Hempel fills the physical stat sheet. He is a very big, stout individual. His runaway speed is not great but i bet he could get out of the pocket in a rollout just as quick as anyone. His throwing ability is a work in progress but you can't teach the previously mentioned attributes.

 

West, IMO, was a better QB last season...but he was also a year older. I don't believe West had the skill set that Hempel had at the same age level. West's short ball is great, but long ball was not as consistent. The offense was solely based on his ability to throw short, extremely accurate passes (slants and screens). I think he will struggle to see the field at UC but could have been an extraordinary DIII player, kind of like Stellman. But as a HS QB, he was as good as I've seen since Diehl, IMO.
