He is a talented kid with great genes but dont tell me that being a year or two older than the competition doesnt give you an advantage. I dont care who holds who back but dont tell me that its the same. Pluck a couple kids off Georgetown's football team who are 19 yr old sophs and let them suit up for your HS team and lets see how they standout.

I don't know about this year but I'm sure quiet a few kids have offers at 17 because they are either a junior or senior and have proven themselves on the fiels. We can all argue until we are blue in the face about whose the best but in couple months everything will work itself out. JMO so take it for what its worth.

I beg to differ! If you aren't using JV to develope yourself, then you shouldn't be out there. When a college recruit ask for film, they don't care if it's varsity or jv, they just want to see you in action. These kids should start presenting themselves to colleges during their jv years just as well.

 

If a player is that dominant, they probably aren't playing jv. Are we talking about d-1 prospects, or any college like Mt. St. Joe's or Thomas More? For Pike the statement was made that he had a D-1 offer, and I think that is great; however, I would imagine that has as much to do with his size, pedigree, etc, as UK seeing him on film in a jv game against CovCath. Sure the players are developing themselves, and the coaches are too, but the whole deal is about varsity football.

Define many. I would say "some", but the vast majority of kids (at least ones that I know) are playing at their normal grade level.

I am going to disagree with you on this one coop. I think it would be the rare JV team that doesn't include a decent number of juniors. I would expect Ryle to have more than a few juniors on their football JV and maybe one or two freshmen if they are exceptional.

 

I would have to go back and check the rosters. I would say there were "some" juniors on JV, but it was predominantly sophomores and some freshmen. In fact, I would guess there was more freshman on JV than there were juniors. Don't know how you and I would define "decent numbers" of juniors, but I don't think that was the case at Ryle at all.

Most schools, including schools like Highlands and Cov Cath, usually have 10 or more juniors on their JV. That is what I would expect at Ryle or any 6A school.

Bottom line here is if Pike had the talent, he would have not of needed the extra hold back consideration added to his "handicap". He would have not needed to be held back, and would have played JV QB as a true freshman and started varsity QB for three seasons. His handlers obviously thought he needed to gain a competitive advantage and saw holding him back as an alternative option. I hope it all works out for him.

Curious, during your playing tenure, how many times did you beat Ryle? I can only remember two wins vs. the Raiders since Jeff took over as head coach. Correct me if I am wrong, but there seems to be a lot of built up hate. BTW, posters like you make your opposition work harder every day.

Not sure that what they did last year matters. If Ryle had a talented senior laden group it makes sense that the underclassmen would not have strong stats. That certainly doesn't mean that they don't have talent.
