Top RB'S in NKY

Featured Replies

His grandpa doesn't know anything about his recruiting but I sure do!

Univ.Cincinnati (RB), N.C.State (RB & LB), Univ of Kentucky (RB), Univ of Virginia (LB), Ohio Univ (RB), Western KY (RB), Murray State (RB) and EKU (RB)

Also saw Patrick Towels at UC and the kid is a great QB! His dad is a very nice man and I wish him and Patrick all the best!

By the way coach Jones is a super guy and also coach Archer at NC State!

(To question a kid with a sub 4.6 40 is funny[/b

If he is running a 4.6 40 he will not be a running back in the SEC. A fullback yes, running back no.. I think he could be a very good fb or lb though..

Thanks for the update. It is always good to get facts we can count on. Can't wait to see Travis in game action this year.

These combine numbers say you are incorrect:

Anthony Dixon 4.65

Dexter McCluster 4.58

Charles Scott 4.67

Travis is at 4.6 now and that means some days you might catch a little below 4.6 and some days you might catch a hair over 4.6, but he will have the choice about LB or RB in college at a lot of schools. You can't teach toughness and heart to go along with talent and hard work and Travis is all 4 of these things. I'm sure that Travis is looking forward to a great 2 seasons at Ryle and the college stuff will take care of itself over the next couple of years. I am very glad he is a Raider and so are his teammates. He is a very likable and hard-working young man and he deserves all of the credit that comes his way. It is not by chance. Anyone doubting his ability to play RB at the D-1 level is simply jealous, uninformed or knows more than guys like Coach Archer, Coach Jones, Coach Coombs, etc. I agree with NeerFan's post.

Well you think I would know what he is being recruited at! But let me educate you a little. The average 40 time for NFL RB is 4.62. The college coaches of today use a system they call a speed score. Calculated by multiplying the players weight by 200, dividing that figure by his 40, taken to the fourth power.

When you run a 4.57 or 4.60 timed by a college coach it turns a lot of heads. And when you are over 200 lbs they really like it!

Not to compare Travis to a NFL athlete because he's not. I will compare his speed score with two well known RB's. Bernard Scott Cin Bengals 4.56,200 lbs, Jovan Ringer Tenn Titans 4.60,205 lbs and Travis 4.57, 203 lbs. All three speed scores are about the same. As far as his speed and quickness that's not even a question! ( top shuttle at UC also)

As a parent I don't care what position he ends up at! But I do know what he is being recruited at!

The recruiting process today is a lot different than it was in 1957 or even the 80's when uncle Bob timed his nephew in the back yard and told everyone he ran a 4.4!

Just curious what was his shuttle time at the UC camp? That to me is a much better assesment of a RB's quickness, which I think is as important as a 40 time. Much of a good 40 time is attributed to the start and technique. There is track fast, and there is Football fast. I'll take football fast everytime.

I don't know where or at what position he will end up in college, but I do know he is going to be one of the best HS Rb's in the NKY area for the next two years. If he continues to improve he will end up in the discussion of top 5 RB's in NKy Ever!

Shuttle time: 4.18 for Elliot at the U.C. camp. Quickest at camp.

Extremely impressive. All the best to him.

You probably already know this, but be careful about what some college coaches tell you about the position they are recruiting kids for. If they have learned that a kid really wants to play one position, some (not all) will tell the kid that's where they want him for, while secretly intending to move him to another position that they think is a better fit. Look very carefully at the type of athletes currently used at that position in their system and see if the kid being recruited fits that "mold".

In any event, best of luck and I'll enjoy watching him play the next two years. I hope he doesn't look too good in the two games against Highlands this year, but I have a hunch he's been looking forward to those two games since last October 30th.

I don't get it. Elliott makes a very select team in Ohio and people want to knock him. Pike gets D1 offers and people knock him. What is the deal? Can't we enjoy the success these area athletes are having? I think it is AWESOME!!! that Elliott made this team. N. Ky.'s junior class is loaded!

Very nice to be on any list with Brionte Dunn. He will be top 1-2 backs in OH in 2012 and will have more BCS offers than just Ohio State.

Travis is going places hope he keeps it up.

I'm glad you cleared that up, so many people think they know about football speed, and they simply do not. People need to watch the NFL combines, 40's below 4.6 are rare, very rare. And while I'm at it, those linemen in those combines are not as fast as people say, almost all of them are over 5.0, some over 5.5. Not the 4.6 we hear the talking heads quote on Sundays.

There's 40 speed, then there's game speed.

There are many ways this timing system could be improved...1)Have the athletes run in full pads 2)Have the WR run towards a deep vertical pass 3)Have RB's run towards a first down marker....all joking aside, speed varies throughout a football game. Elliott may run a 4.60 on the first play of the game for a 15 yard carry or vs. Cov Cath on an 80 yard run. But he may not be able to reach that 4.60 speed again for several minutes...or at all.

 Against Cov Cath, he's taking it to the house. Against Highlands, it's under 10yds.:D

I went to a few Ryle games last year and I have to say that Elliot definitely has football speed. Not only that but he is one tough kid. Best of luck to him this season.
