I have a question just because I don't have alot of knowledge about this region. Why do they play the region tourney on Mason County's home court?

 

Most other regions use a neutral site: Johnson Arena, Expo Center, Bellarmine, Diddle...etc.

 

Is this just the best venue in the region or what?

Not on this thread. Old topic by now. And, really not worth a discussion. Honestly, with 26,000 post and you don't know this answer. I cant believe that.

 

In terms of relative location to the 10th Region, there really is no neutral site to host the tournament. I am sure they have thought about it long and hard. It would be nice if a convention center or something else was built where they could host the 10th.

I am not going to deny that playing on your home floor is an advantage, but Clark Co can't blame the arena, the fans or officiating for their loss. It comes to down to making plays and making shots at the end of games and they did not do that. I said it above and I will say it again, their shot selection and game management that last three minutes kept them from going to Rupp. Mason Co. took full advantage of the missed threes and the free throw opportunities that Cards gave them. Gutty preformance by the Royals!

There are many answers to your questions, most of which have probably been given in some forum at some point in time. But I'll offer a few that come to mind anyway:

 

* Those in Mason County & many of its nearest neighbors prefer the Fieldhouse because it's closer (same reasons the 40th district likes it in Mt. Sterling & the 37th likes it in Cold Spring).

 

* 10th region die-hards prefer the Fieldhouse for traditional reasons. Long-time 10th region fans remember Feldhaus, the Jerry Fogle shot (which was also Maysville's last game), Mason County's three-peat from 92-94, the Billy Ray game in 95, Chris Lofton's dominance, Pendleton County's incredible fan turnout (whatever year it was they went), Knowles beating Miller, & then last night was just another chapter to add in the 10th Region tournament/Fieldhouse lore.

 

* 10th region die-hards don't equate Northern Kentucky with the 10th region. I'm not sure how many people have actually publicly verbalized their opinions on this (by publicly verbalized I mean here on BGP), but ever since the arrival of Campbell County, Brossart, & a little later Scott, the old-school 10th region people (of which I am a part) haven't taken to the idea of the region moving further north. And it will be a while (if ever?) before they/we do. I am the first to admit this may be unfair or even wrong, but I do believe it to be reality. I still know people (because I am one) who miss the old 38th district of Bracken, Pendleton, Deming, & Augusta. Same could be said for the district that once contained Mason, St. Pat, Tollesboro, & Fleming. Many don't adapt all that well to change, and holding the tourney @ BOK is just another change they don't want.

 

Those are just my observations.

 

Says here that the 10th is going to keep moving further north in the near future, and us traditionalists are just going to have to live with the fact that half the time the tourney will be @ BOK & the other half at the Fieldhouse.

He was hounded by fans. Hard to enjoy anything when every few minutes someone walks up to you and says, smile while I take your picture.

Wow this is not what I expected but I was very impressed with the Mason Co guards when they traveled to Ft. Thomas and took on the Birds early in the season. I know Pawsat was out but the Birds took it to them and won and I still thought Mason Co was a very good team. They obviously have improved and I also like the way Coach Ohearn uses his bench. Those boys have some nice size and also playing on your home floor has to be more comfortable then traveling.

 

Gotta also give some respect to GRC, they have beaten some very very good teams this year and I expect them to possibly be a top 3 team in the state next year with all the studs they return.

I bet the guys with the white rope weren't about to stop this crowd - therefore why were they there the rest of the time - it is just funny that they spent so much effort on protecting the floor and so little effort on the rest of the details.

 

Note - those details had no influence on who won the game - only on the fans impression of the tournament
