I hear pre screenings are going on next week.

200+ posts on the Grant Co job...as I have previously stated, am I missing something? They are, have not been, nor ever will be a threat to touch Rupp's floor.

 

However, look at it in this perspective. As a young coach, or a coach coming up in the ranks looking for thier first head coaching job, or a coach looking for a new job, this is what I feel Grant County has to offer:

 

1. Dry Ridge/Grant County is slowly starting to expand and getting bigger, attracting more people/talent. Great place to live, some good fishing!!!!!

2. It is a nice school with good support (apparently).

3. They have a nice youth program established, if they can keep that running and get some good young talent developed and to stay in the system, you may have a few years of good teams.

4. They will always be able compete in the 8th region, may not always be one of the top 5 teams, but will always compete. But if you can get a nice team to come through, work with that youth system and get those kids to stay in Grant County, who knows, you might see that hardwood at Rupp.

5. Location, they can travel to NKY, Central KY, and other areas to play a lot of different teams.

 

I think Grant County does have a lot of upside for a coach to want to be there. I think it is unfair to say that they will never see Rupp, with the Shelby County schools splitting talent may be dispursed, Anderson has not been the same as they have in the past, with high school basketball you never know, a lot of uncertainty. I am looking forward to seeing who they hire.

I think this job would be very appealing to a young coach trying to establish himself.

1979, was this a Steve Howe led Braves team? I seem to remember that being a pretty solid squad.

Not sure about Howe...but Gallatin County coach Jon Jones played on that team. They won 30+ games and beat Scott County in the finals that year. They lost in the first round of the Sweet 16.

 

Insane 8th Region tourney that year...Oldham upset defending state champ Shelby County (with Charles Hurt) in the first round, then were upset themselves in the semis when Scott County played stall-ball (hard to believe it, but Scott didn't always run!). Grant survived the other bracket, which included a very powerful Carroll County squad led by Curt Robertson.

Yes it was. The had the unfortunate circumstance of drawing Layfayette in the opening round of the Sweet 16. That was the Dirk Minniefield squad that won state that year.

That Grant County team was 34-2. I would say that is more that just pretty solid! I believe they also beat Eminence in the Regional Tournament who was led by Mont Sleets, who played at Western.

Sleets played at Murray State. Grant defeated Eminence in the 1st round 60-59. Sleets had 47 of the Eminence 59 I do believe.

At one point in time didn't Grant County (perhaps before it was Grant County High School???) win a national championship? For some reason I thought I saw a banner in the gym. I may be wrong????

I would assume that's Steve Simpson, head coach of South Oldham, who is from Grant County and is a former AD of Grant.
