5 out of last 6 years Walton and Grant have played in the 2-3 seed game of the District. Walton has won 3, Grant 2.

So does Gallatin County have all this stuff in place? Feeder systems and AAU and all the stuff needed to keep developing the younger kids? I'm guessing they would have to to be as successful as they have been.

Gallatin is proof that with the right organization, the right coach, and good old-fashioned effort, small schools can and do win consistently.

Coach Jones does an excellent job and his players believe in him and his system. I do have one thought, his program did take-off after the redistricting took place. They have the benefit of playing in a district with teams their own size. They started winning districts when they were removed from the Oldham District. That said they have represented themselves well the last 2 or 3 years and beat some big schools in the region.

Sounds like Kinman was not the right man for the job if he was there 8 years and all this hasn't been worked out. I agree with Gator, school that big should be better. As my father say's "no excuses just results" Him moving on might be a blessing. No disrespect to him, probably a good man just not a head coach.

 

Beating Scott County any year in the first round of the district takes not only talent but one heck of a coach!

I have no personal grudge. The beauty of this site is the anonymity so their are no politics involved. People can call them how they see them. I've actually said Kinmon is probably a good man and great at something else just not a head basketball coach. Being loved by a community does not equal being a good coach. Believe me when i say I have no dog in this fight. This is a site for people to give their opinion on high school sports and I enjoy it and will continue doing so. One of the best things about sports is the non-personal debate about strategy ect.. Hence the popularity of this site.

 

In the end I'll refer to my previous statement. In the last several years at the varsity level has Grant Co. won more than they should, as much as they should or less than they should? I think most agree on the answer to that.

Point well made Triple Threat! Grant County basketball has the respect it does today because of Kinman. Just look at the list of talented coaches that have been mentioned to take over the program. I find it hard to believe that any of those people would want that program had Kinmon not made it what it is today.

You are right, the redistricting did help. It helped alot. Gallatin is now in a district with 2 other "A" schools and one that was an "A" until recently. That makes a huge difference when you don't have to compete against the larger schools. It's like having a mini-All A district. I know alot of other schools would love to have something like that. Not sure of how many other districts is composed of all "A" schools with the exception of one.

I'm sure the district has helped Gallatin get some extra wins, but it doesn't change the fact they've still been successful against the bigs...you have to give Jones and the Wildcats the credit they deserve. During the last five years (since moving to the 31st), they've beaten the following large schools: Oldham County (twice), Simon Kenton (once each of the last three years), Grant County (twice), Conner, Shelby County (twice), South Oldham, Anderson County (twice), North Oldham, Dixie Heights, Ryle, and Bullitt Central.

There are 2 big schools in the 32nd one of which is Grant what does this have to do with the job.
