Walton and Simon will both be good next year, they can not be wasting time if they want to maximize their season.

 

I would say that it is hard when no budget has been passed by the GA just yet. Most schools don't know what type of cuts they are going go to have just yet they have the whole month of June.

I believe you are under-estimating most coaches. I'd guess that if at all possible the new coach would arrange for open gyms when he could be there if it's at all possible.

Coach Utter has been allowing people to come in and shoot anytime they want. He was told by administration not to do any scheduling of summer or next season. Maybe a Hint.:walk:

I would think that if Utter really wants to show he deserves the job all of this is already being done.

I'm not close enough to the situation to know - maybe he's already been removed from consideration.

Of course not.....why would there be? The announcement was made in December and they still don't have a coach.....should speak volumes about the district and the importance of basketball.

 

Shelby's coach takes his team to the state tourney less than a month ago and they announced there coach less than 3 weeks after Clark steps down.....I assume basketball is important in that district.

 

Maybe they're taking it too seriously? What is the best Grant County can hope for in boys basketball? Isn't it a really good year if not great if they make the regional tournament? What are the goals there?

The GC Boys deserve a little more credit. There is a potential for success. No one is going to come in here and wave a magic wand and turn the program into a regional contender next season. The new coach will have to start to build the morale and instill his philosophy. His hard work may not show itself for three more years.

Hey PANTHER - It's apparent that you have no passion for basketball!!!! You've come in here and complained about this thread still being around and now you're saying that GC has no players coming up. Last time I checked their rosters, there's 7 juniors returning, 8 - 10 soph's, and a very talented freshmen group that won 70% of their games. I would suggest that you get your facts straight before attacking players and their ability to play the game. You may find this hard to believer but, sometimes it's not always about winning...it's about building character, sportsmanship, and being an outstanding student athlete that's a role model for other individuals. I can offer a few names if you'd care to meet them :eek:

 

Check back in about a month or so, I'm positive the coach will have been named by then!

Last time I checked their rosters, there's 7 juniors returning, 8 - 10 soph's, and a very talented freshmen group that won 70% of their games. I would suggest that you get your facts straight before attacking players and their ability to play the game. Amen,:ylsuper: I know their players, and can say they have several that have class and character. I hope whoever they hire is committed to stay a while and build a program. I hear about some of the candidates and don't think some will stay very long. I will say this, the freshman beat Carroll County everytime last year, panther, and with that talent and the sophomores and juniors coming back if the right coach can get in there and teach them how to play as a team then anything can happen. They can and will compete in the district and you never know on any given night in the regions it might just break in their favor. But at the end of the day, I want my son and the other boys to have an experience that they will remember for a lifetime. Best of luck to the braves next year.

Grant County does in fact have some talent coming back (not sure of his name, but they have a big kid roughly 6'5 that can play inside and out, good talent, and talent coming up nice frosh team, so I hope that Grant continues to take thier time to find the RIGHT coach for thier program. I am sure those boys will find a way to get into the gym and get work out on their own. Good luck Braves!

I agree with you and think they need to get the right coach, but I know of no 6'5 kid on the team. They graduated the two big guys Davis and Wartman. The Kearns kid could be who you are thinking of but would not really consider him a big man. Kohler subbed alot for Davis at Center, he is only about 6'1 or 6'2. The braves should be guard and small forward heavy the next couple of years with a couple of true big guys coming up.

Don't they have a candidate that is currently the iterim coach, lives in the county, and is an alum? I'm pretty sure he'd stay a while. Sometimes people make decisions a lot tougher than they should be. I really don't see Grant County becoming Scott County or Mason County any time soon. Their ceiling is probably a regional final in the next decade. My guess is Walton has a brighter future.

Can't comment about the interim coach and status. I do know that GC has produced 2 regional champs and a runner-up in the last 55 years. Having said that, I'm positive that if GC were to be a regional finalist/champ within the next decade, that would be a major accomplishment for the program. As for comparison between SC & MC, doesn't really matter because they're in a different district/region. With regards to Walton, great program and they have been successful the last few years...congrats to them! Maybe....that's why it's taking longer than it should.
