I can't believe that a kid had a concussion but is taking the blame from most folks in this thread. If it was your kid, all of the Leach backers would be singing a different tune. In this day and age when concussions and how they are treated is the new safety issue in football at all levels, not only can you not treat kids this way when they are concussed, but you especially can't do it to a high profile personality's son who, by the way, is one of the most respected college football analysts amongst his peers. That's not smart, I don't care who the coach is. Leach made his bed by sending James to the shed, and now he is sleeping in it.

If Craig James wasn't involved does this ever become a story? ESPN is trying to run Leach into the ground. I think Leach showed some very bad judgement especially considering he knows James has a microphone as he put it.

I am talking about in general, not this specific situation. In terms of a football player's safety, concussions are the new hot button issue. Anytime you have a coach with an insensitive approach to a player's condition after a concussion, there will be a major outcry and a coach likely getting fired. Common sense says that if a kid has a concussion you can't lock him up in a shed as punishment. You can't. I don't see how that can be defended. I think Leach was fired because of money, but he gave them a reason to fire him with his treatment of Adam James, who by the way, is the son of a high profile college football analyst. I think any college football analyst or any father who has a son would react the same way. Now that Leach is fired, it is easy for him to say this that and the other about Adam and Craig James. I think it's kind of ironic that people on this board think the analyst's son is at fault. And he's the one that was concussed and locked in a shed. Twice. For being hurt.

When Leech asked an assistant coach why he was dressed that way and an assistant said it was because of the concussion and the sunlight. So Leech told him to go to the garage by the field to get out of the sun. I don't think it's a horrible thing. It's not like he could get hurt in there or anything.

A sworn affidavit by a trainer called it a "shed".

 

Pincock said Leach was upset by James' attitude and did not want the other players witnessing it.

"Leach told me to place James in a dark place near the practice field," Pincock said in the affidavit.

Pincock said Leach continued in an expletive-filled rant in which he degraded James and questioned his toughness.

Pincock said that at Leach's instruction, he placed James in a sports medicine/athletic training shed near the field, with all of the coolers and containers taken away, and instruction from Leach that James should not sit for two to three hours. Pincock described the shed as the size of a single-car garage, with no windows.

In the affidavit, Pincock stated he told James he was "sorry for having to place him in a dark shed but these were Leach's instructions. I do not agree with this form of treatment for anyone, and I discussed this with James."

Pincock said that two days later, instead of the shed, it was suggested James might be placed in a media interview room, which was "very dark and cold." Pincock said the media interview room contained an electrical closet, but he told James not to go into that room because of the noise level.

In the affidavit, Pincock said: "I am not aware of any other player at Texas Tech University ever being placed in a darkened shed or room similar to James. Other players who have sustained concussions in the past were sometimes placed in the physician's examination room with the lights dimmed, or in the weight room or athletic training room. I feel that Leach's treatment of James was inappropriate and I did not agree with it. However, I felt I had to follow the instructions of the head coach."

I still contend as a Head Coach, you are supposed to above the childish nature of your student athletes. The true story is more likely in between both sides of the story we are hearing, but to me it is evident Leech got in a peeing contest with a 20 year old kid. James showed a lack of maturity. Leech showed a lack of maturity. The difference is that your Head Coach is supposed to be held to a higher standard.

If he's not practicing because of injury what difference does it make what he is wearing? If he was a distraction why not send him to the training room, weight room or back to his dorm room and then if he acts like he can't or won't do that, then address it accordingly. I am not saying James was in danger at all. That's not the point I am trying to make. The only point I am trying to make is that Leach was wrong in his actions and treatment of James in this particular situation and because of his stubbornness Texas Tech was able to use this as an excuse to fire him so they wouldn't have to pay him. IMHO, James is the victim and Leach should have been the bigger man and a responsible head coach wouldn't lock kids up in a two car garage with football equipment, no chairs and an ice machine......twice....for having a concussion and showing up to practice with a baseball cap on backwards and sunglasses. Coach had a chance to stay, he was called hard headed by his boss, notice the key word here ..."BOSS".

That is a very common rule. Most high schools have similar rules about what you can and cannot wear to practice, injured or not. I am betting that it was not the 1st time he wore the wrong clothes based on the reaction of the coach.

Notice the doctors said he had concussion like symptoms...it was a mild concussion at best...he had been in trouble two days prior...I would be willing right now with a Doctor's examination, I could pull off a concussion like symptom diagnosis...don't follow the tip of a pin correctly, miss the top of my nose with my finger tip...this reeks of a spoiled bratt who wasn't getting his way and therefore was being a terd...unfortunately his antics have caused a fire storm and have been blown way out of proportion.

James is lucky he never played for Meyer. Injuried FL players are often put into a sand volleyball pit with a wheel barrel and move sand back and forth throughout practice. If you watched the TT bowl game Bob Davie makes reference to the fact that most teams have a place they put injuried players that is not the most comfortable. What will be interesting is the backlash that this will have throughout college football when it comes to stuff like this.
