Mike Leach fired

Featured Replies

Leach will have no problem finding a new job. He wins ball games and plays an exciting brand of football which puts butts in the seats. It seems that as unorthodox as he is, the players (as a whole) have a great amount of respect for him. When I read the email about the kid who couldn't play anymore, and Leach contacted him to fill out the paperwork and finish his degree, that speaks volumes about his concern about his players.

In short, based on what I have read so far, I would let my kid play for Coach Leach in a heartbeat.

^ Absolutely. :thumb:

I think that Leach had no where else to put him. He wouldn't stay home, he wasn't allowed to practice so they put him there. I don't see it as a punishment. He wasn't allowed to practice because of the concussion. It may be a weird way to deal with players but I don't see how it could be a punishment.

I have not read anything from Leach stating that the kid was not allowed to be on the field nor would he "stay home."

Link?

I guess I shouldn't be but I am a bit surprised to see the anti-Leach comments being made by some of his current players.

It was one of the first things I saw on the topic. I think I saw it on ESPN, but I'll look for a link.:thumb:

I think a lot of the reason Leach was fired can be contributed to the issues he has had with the Athletic Department at Texas Tech. He spoke publicly after last season about being open to other programs wanting his services, also I think a lot of it has to do with the recent allegations made across the country of coaches mistreating athletes at other programs such as Mark Mangino at Kansas, and Jim Leavitt at South Florida.

I don't really know who I side with on this, in a way I want to think that coaches wouldn't purposely put their players in a position that would further complicate an injury, but at the same time I know about the eccentricities that Mike Leach has. I saw the video of Leach's lawyer showing the "utility room", and "electrical closet" that Leach put Adam James in, and if those are indeed the rooms he was confined to, I have think a lot of this was blown out of proportion. We'll probably never know the full story from either side, but I do wonder if this had happened to a "regular" player-one whose father doesn't work for ESPN, if the University would have taken the same action.

Seniors or underclassmen? Link?

Not a good idea for a returning player to trash the guy. His replacement may remember that. Discretion is the better part of valor.

Wonder how many players will transfer? Lots of Texas teams would take them in a heartbeat.

All I have seen is pro-Leach comments by players?

Craig James can now take credit for killing two programs?

Special, ain't he?

Here is a link to a couple that I've seen.

I read that its common practice for injured players often go to these rooms to rest or do exercises.

Shouldn't take him long to find a job...

I'm not convinced of that. For one, its late. Secondly, he's not for everyone.

Way to go Texas Tech! Now my Longhorns will have one less team to worry about! LOL

TT has screwed up bad. They acted way to fast to truely have investigated I guess they'd rather save money getting rid of Leach than have a solid program. And that's fine with me!

The speed surprised me, too. USF brought in outside investigators, to perform the inquiry into the alleged incident involving Jim Leavitt, just to prevent the speculation of impropriety. The Leach firing just smells bad from the word go.
