December 31, 200916 yr I don't think the firing had so much to do with what Leach did, but rather who he did it to, when you add that to the already rocky relationship Leach had with TTU's Athletic Department, it was the perfect excuse to fire him IMO.
December 31, 200916 yr The speed surprised me, too. USF brought in outside investigators, to perform the inquiry into the alleged incident involving Jim Leavitt, just to prevent the speculation of impropriety. The Leach firing just smells bad from the word go. The speed of the firing was escalated by the actions of Mike Leech. He was suspended for the bowl game by TT pending investigation. Leach was the one asking for an court ordered injunction allowing him to coach the bowl game. He was trying to go above the administration rather than let the investigation play out. University Presidents and Athletic Directors have even bigger egos than coaches, I'm guessing the threat of the injunction and avoidance of the suspension was the final straw.

Or the 800,000 they were going to have to pay him if he was the coach tomorrow.
December 31, 200916 yr Head man at TT said ..."Mike was hardheaded and didn't want to work to resolve the situation, we tried but he didn't want to help in the meeting and it went downhill, I like Mike, but he was insuboardant". Looks like Mike would just accept the one game and he was free to come back.
December 31, 200916 yr ^But, if in your mind you did nothing wrong, why would you sit out even one game?

I would have been unhappy if I were Leach the University pretty much said your guilty until proven innocent by suspending him from one kids claim.
December 31, 200916 yr Here's a link to the "shed" and the "electrical room". What a joke! These two areas would be nice high school football dressing room facilities. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/sports/2009/12/30/tx.leach.lawyer.shed.cnn When everything comes out I think Mike Leach will be an even richer man. He was wrongfully fired. His offense is so much fun to watch. I wish we would boot Joker and get him while he's still available.
December 31, 200916 yr Maybe James was upset that his blankie and pacifier weren't allowed in the "shed" and "electrical closet" with him. Boo Texas Tech!! Just terrible.
December 31, 200916 yr This guy nails it. http://www.sportingnews.com/college-football/article/2009-12-30/james-gang-helps-texas-tech-get-revenge-on-leach "Enjoy that unlawful termination lawsuit, Tech." Love that quote.
December 31, 200916 yr The more I see the more Leach looks to be wrong and James seems to be a baby. It all seems REALLY convienant for the University IMO. Leach won't have trouble finding work IMO. Wish Cincy and Marshall didn't get their coaches already.
December 31, 200916 yr The more I read and hear about this situation tells me that Leach is about to get PAID and the James duo will look like a horses rear.
December 31, 200916 yr The cell phone video hurts Leach. Everything else makes James/TT look bad IMO.
December 31, 200916 yr I'm glad his lawyer Bob Legget is filing a counter suit on Leach's behalf. I don't think the suit has been filed "yet", but is supposed to be coming very soon. Seriously, what grounds did TT have to actually suspend Mike Leach on, much less fire him. Kid was supposed to have a concussion, wouldn't stay home, so Leach put him in a spot with low light and not as much heat/sun exposure. The kid (Smith) was not alone, and had a trainer, and as I take it two GA's with him at all times. I mean what a joke. It wasn't like the kid was tied to a 5 man sled and left for days, he only spend the duration of practice in there. A practice in which I take he wasn't even supposed to be at. What a joke.

Seriously, what grounds did TT have to actually suspend Mike Leach on, much less fire him. K. Here's the wording from his contract: Was Texas Tech legally entitled to fire Leach for cause? Leach's contract lists the circumstances under which Texas Tech could dismiss him for cause: 1) The commission of a major NCAA violation or an excessive accumulation of secondary violations by Leach. 2) Knowingly condoning NCAA violations by any staff member under his direct control. 3) Failure to take appropriate disciplinary action against any staff member committing NCAA violations. 4) Failure to take appropriate disciplinary action against football student-athletes. 5) Indictment for a felony criminal act. 6) A misdemeanor involving moral turpitude. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/michael_mccann/12/30/leach.texas.tech/
