I did have a Pineapple juice/cream of coconut and something many years ago on a cruise. It was frozen. You don't drive a car on a cruise.

It's illegal for Kentuckians to drink that nasty, low-rent bourbon knock-off they stew up in the hollers down south of us. Especially when there's quality stuff brewed much closer to home.

Maybe it was the kind of bourbon you had? I had a similar experience with a bottle of Jim Beam. Some 20 years later, Jim Schue don't touch Jim Beam, but still loves many other stripes of bourbon. You should consider giving a good bourbon (again, not Jim Beam or some other rot-gut) a second chance, for the sake of your status as a Kentuckian.

I spent some time with an old friend of mine last night. He's been living up in Minnesota for the last 5 or 6 years, so we were indulging in a little bit of good ol' white lightning from the hills of Mason County, KY.

 

Since he'd never made me one before, he insisted on making me one of his famous G&T's. It was pretty dag-gone good, although admittedly I like to have a little more "alcohol" taste to my drinks. It was equal parts of Seagram's (that's right...Seagram's) Lime Twisted Gin, 7-UP and tonic water with a lime wedge.

 

He's also a big fan of Jameson and 7-UP. I personally don't ever put anything other than ice or a splash of water in with my whiskeys, but that's not a bad drink either as long as you don't mind sacrificing the liquor.

I'd start with Woodford Reserve or Maker's Mark and go from there. For a lower-cost but still good quality option, I've found Elijah Craig to be pretty good. With all of these, it's bourbon over ice with a bit of water.

If you like that then you may like a drink called Big Ginger. Its a double shot of Jameson and ginger ale. I personally dont drink them or whiskey for that matter but people who like Jameson seem to enjoy them.

Red Stag (cherry infused bourbon made by Beam) and Sprite. Taste like a cherry Sprite!

Maker's is hard to beat though.

My favorite beers are Bud Light, Bud Select, and Yuengling.

 

Very good stuff if it's the same beer I'm thinking of. If so, I believe you have to go to Tennessee to get it.

 

I have a buddy of mine that goes to Tennessee 2 or 3 times a month and brings back 5 or 6 cases of it every time since you can't get it around here.

 

Kentucky Tavern and Coke Zero.

 

If you like Kentucky Tavern, try Ancient Age. I'm actually surprised nobody has mentioned that yet.

 

Ancient Age is very good with Sprite or Coke or straight on the rocks.

Hard to go wrong with Woodford's.

 

For a man's bourbon, however, save up your pennies and try a bottle of Booker's.
