At the end of the day, he still wants to win and that's why he coaches. He tends to show his emotions a little differently. On the other side, you have a coach who might not be from here but fully understands the legacy he's inherited and helped to build. He's a tough love coach and not the most personable but in the end his methods of teaching winning and losing to 15-18 year olds is no less effective. Coach Beatty told me before the season that this team was going to be a challenge but he was excited about the challenge. You can critisize him all you want, but it is his job to put the team in the best position to win. This time around, he just didn't make all of the right choices. The kids he played on both sides of the ball were out of gas by the beginning of the second half and lost their effectiveness particularly on defense. Our lack of making substitutions on the defensive front kept us from staying fresh and allowed St.X to continue to run the clock. At the end of the game the result was the same as the first game. We just got beat by a better team. Again Congratulations to the Tigers. We'll be back!

Congrats to the Tigers, you have finally put some competition back into this high school classic, at least for this year anyway. The Rocks are loaded for the next three years, look for another three peat.

 

Coach Glaser showed again what a emotional classless caracter he is. The hat trick has to be another one of his embarasing acts,to all tiger fans even though they may not admit it. He has finally won another title, he needs to retire with what little diginity he still has. Again congrats to the Tigers great year.:ohbrother::eek:

All this talk about Coach G's gesture is nuts, wrong yes, but i didnt see it. But i have noticed that no one has said anything about Brad Kragthorpe's gesture after his TD pass. He get lifted up by a Lineman pointed to STX side then, shurgged his shoulders and shook his head. There motavation for the Defense right there and the rest of the STX team. I am not saying Coach G was right by any means of tipping his hat bc he is suppose to be a role model but things happen in the heat of the moment that you cant take back.

I understand what you are saying - and have no major issue with it.

Just wanted to point out the distinction (at least in my mind) between a player "celebrating" - gesturing - etc. and getting caught up in the moment - as opposed to a Coach \ 'role model'.

 

And I do not want to turn this into a BK vs. MG issue -it is not.

Trust me, everyone in the stands couldn't understand what happened to Watson's playing time. He battled and played through injuries all season long and ultimately the coaches didn't think he could get it done. It was sad for a kid that gave everything for the team and even took a position change from tackle to guard for the sake of the team.

By coming so far out onto the field - at least to the numbers \if not further - (and I believe the film will show he may have done more than simply "tip his hat" - there are many who feel this should have been -

Didn't see the gesture but Mike Glaser has been going out on the field for about 27 years welcoming in the scoring offense to the sideline. The Tigers were issued a sideline warning penalty during the game. Really, maybe the Rock players and Rock fans should of been watching the elgible receivers rather than the sideline. Ask your sons about the "XXXX St X" cheer from the student section before you start throwing stones.

St. Xavier has no doubt Trinity will be back. One of the many things that make this rivalry so strong and sustained is that each team keeps coming back. The level of competition exhibited by both year in and year out is remarkable. It is a great rivalry.

Thanks for the link Jimmy. I wanted to see if the tv guys noticed Glaser's antics or if Trinity fans were unjustifiably upset at the hat tip. Looks like the color commentator, Scott Thompson, whom I assume has no animosity towards Glaser, had the same present sense impression as many Rock fans. The fake fg and Glaser salute begin at 2:14:30 here http://ky.ihigh.com/school23462/broadcast_106625.html. I loved when the announcer begins to laugh in disbelief and says:

 

"Ha ha ha ha ha.

Oh boy that's what you call hate, hate, hate.

They go for the fake field goal already up 18.

Makes it sort of difficult for you to comment then doesn't it?

 

It was after the score - not during (Good play btw).

 

Once again not talking about the actions and behavior of kids (on or off the field). Would not in any way attempt to defend boorish behavior out of the student section.

 

Rather, my point was the "unsportsmanlike" behavior of a supposed role model.

I have said before that I don't like scores to be run up, and that was my first reaction on the FG. But, with 5 minutes left, if X converts the 1st down, they are at the 10-12 with 4 minutes remaining, and necessarily would have had running plays, as they could not have knelt it.

 

Didn't see the Hat issue, wasn't there, but some are saying it was nothing. Will watch the web site. Glaser does have a habit of running onto the field after a score with his hat in the air. There should not have been a taunt.

 

Many X fans remember 2 years ago after the game with certain T players running to the X fans, etc.

THE FACT THAT COACH CAL IS YOUR HERO SPEAKS LOUDLY AS TO YOUR VALUES!

 

Another point and the last to be said on this, These seniors at X have played trinity 6 times since their sophomore year at the varsity level. The record is Saint x 4 wins--Trinity 2 wins. Looking at it that way, it sure does not look like Trinity dominated over the past three years. Also , going back one more year, X & trinity only played one time during the regular season and that game was called in the 1st QTR due to weather conditions and went down as a Trinity win. Winning when it counts matters most, but, there has not been any dominance over the past four years unless you see it as St X doing so.

That may make X fans feel better, but the record also says in the past nine years, Trinity seven titles, X two. Darn statistics!
