NKY Pride in Highlands? Is Ernst Correct?

Featured Replies

From a students perspective I haven't really ever considered Highlands a part of NKY. I've always looked at them as if they're in their own district and are set apart from everyone else. I guess that kind of makes sense considering they're indepedent?

I am smarter than I look. :D

Please, don't serve up any more of these straight lines...

Why is it that everyone hates winners? Sounds like there is a little jealousy going on. :D

Nahh...no hate here. I grew up with J-Load.

It's because the students at HHS are the most athletic, smartest, and best looking in NKY...

And the most modest, by far.:D

Please, don't serve up any more of these straight lines...

Take your best shot sir.

I am split on this:

Part of me wanted HHS to lose, if for no other reason than by winning you couldn't shut up the HHS fans.

The other half, well my wife family lives in Ohio, I can't say thank you enough to HHS for winning, as I was able to stick it to them big time about the Big Bad Ohio school losing to us backward hillbillies from NKy.

BTW how is Bardo doing, or is that going to be a state secret in Ft. Thomas?

Being out here in no-man's land (Maysville, where neither NKY nor EKY claims us); I'm something of an outsider. A few observations; some of which may have already been put forth:

There does seem to be something of a NKY "togetherness" that seems to be lacking in most other geographical areas of the state, with the possible exception of the mountains.

Many will harbor resentment against teams that are perennially successful. There are an awful lot of Yankee, Cowboy, FIghting Irish, etc. haters.

My first contact with a HHS team of any kind was at a cross-country meet at Pendleton County in 2001. When they rolled in on their charter bus, there seemed to be some resentment. However, I'm not convinced that a school should be harshly criticized for having an abundance of resources.

Maybe there is still, right or wrong, some resentment over the Mike Mitchell affair.

Some folks will NEVER revel in the success of an arch-rival.

I'm just tickled to death that there have already been a couple of high-profile KY wins over OH teams - Highlands over X being more high-profile than Ashland over Ironton.

Was Holmes playing the #1 team in the country according to some polls???? I don't think so??? No one gave Highlands a chance. I think Holmes was suppossed to win..:D

Are you kidding? No one gave them a chance? Perhaps you should look at the ESPN rankings who had Highlands ranked ahead of X. The high school national polls are very subjective, and mean very little to me. Don't ever discount a non-class state basketball championship, they are very difficult to achieve.

I am leaning in this direction also. I'm a bball guy though:thumb:

Man, just think what Clyde"s thread would have looked liked if HHS would have lost. Here is a person that doesn't hide their feelings on BGP.

I will tell you this, I visited Roy Rogers yesterday for lunch and the owner said great job by HHS! Oh and I know for a fact he lives in Ohio. So maybe the hatred you say isn't only on the Ky. side of the river. I'm sorry, I meant pride. Wait you don't have any. Which is it? Forget it!!! I just remembered.

You know they say when people stop talking about you, then you must not be doing something right or wrong. Thanks again for keeping us in your threads!

All of LN's friends were nice except one so I beat up on that guy pretty good only to find out he was a pretty big deal around Campbell County. LOL

LN's crowd is filled with "pretty big deals." How you got in? Not sure.

Then what are you saying?

What am I saying? I'm saying that the feeling that the majority of NKY is filled with "pride" due to the W is incorrect. Respect? Yes.

It appears you vastly overestimate it. We all may be rivals, but when it comes to outside forces, we band together as one. This win was a win, not just for Highlands...not just for NKY..but for the whole of Kentucky. If there is some anti-Highlands sentiment, I think you'll find it mostly outside the borders of NKY.

Or in the Highlands faculty.:irked:

See, Tdy, you fall into the same trap as many of your brethren.

I'm not a hater. I didn't grow up a CCH fan so that rivalry was never a big deal to me.

I do realize that to some in the Fort that if you don't fall in line and constantly pay homage that you're a hater. Fine. Simple-minded but fine.

On the other hand, I'm not going to blow smoke up your rear end and tell you that I ROOT for Highlands. I don't. I don't root against them either. This "kumbaya" crap is just that. Half the people that say they root for NKY teams no matter what are lying. Period.

I was at the game hoping to see a fun game in a great environment . I did. Great night. Loved the atmosphere. Loved watching two of the top programs in greater Cincinnati. I appreciate talent.

You guys that are so thin-skinned that can't even get into an intelligent debate about an article written by our local sports guy kill me. Predicatable but still disappointing.
