Obama's "press" conference

Featured Replies

Okay woods then what happens. I've been to plenty of wild get togethers outside and when the police come into a less black neighborhood they make exceptions. They ask for the owner, and then ask to please keep it quiet. Case closed nothing more or less. On the more black neighborhoods two or three come fo the same disturbance and there is a difference in the tone of voice and the cops hang around lil longer just to see.

You can hypothetical this situation to death. None of us were there, but being in that situation, (and I know something about the law and being a police officer) it is my opinion that the officer acted properly. Police officers deal with a wide range of people and they have to judge each situation on it own elements. You cannot generalize about parties, and the statements you make about the police offend me greatly. Your statement is really not that much different than that of the President, in that you just don't have all the facts.

Your posts get funnier and funnier.

You say that when the cops come to a "white" party they ask the owner to keep it down real nice like then nothing more. But when the swat team is called to a party in a black neighborhood then everyone is going to jail.

Gates was told twice to calm down or he would be arrested. Guess what, if Gates were white and did the same thing we would have the same result.

But it's good to know you think all cops are racist and out to get the black man.

No you are totally wrong there woods. Totally wrong

No you are totally wrong there woods. Totally wrong

If you would bother to take the time to read the report Gates was told twice.

Leatherneck, at least explain to me the reason that whites hated blacks or were/are racists against them. Then we can talk.

Honestly scoutchoice, based on your past posts, I'm not all that interested in talking to you.

There are plenty of reasons why whites are racists and blacks are racists. None of those reasons are good reasons however.

I'm hearing "momma" jokes were involved.

Supposedly the cop also keyed his radio when Gates was going "looney tunes". I'd love to hear that.

Hold on here are we pretending or are really serious about cops. Are we saying that cops don't lie and all cops are good cops. It doesn't matter what that police report says it doesn't mean that it is right. My problem is that as long as you are in your own house you can be as loud and obnoxious as you want as long as you are not physically hurting anyone. I don't care if the policeman could or couldn't hear he should have never been in there.

The vast majorities of law enforcement officers do their job, risk their lives, and abide by the law. To automatically assume that most police officers are racist liars is irresponsible and it does matter what the police report says. They are legal statements on the same level as a sworn statement admissible in court.

Yep, you are the be all end all when it comes to cop miscondunt. At least we know where to get our racist cop info now.

Useless.

Regardless of anything, he does NOT have the right to act disorderly outside his own home, shouting that the cop is racist among other things. A very simple showing of identification to clear matters up, a "thank you" for taking time to check to make sure no one was in fact breaking into his residence, and a good evening between both parties would have sufficed. He was very deserving of his arrest, and if not for all the whining about it, the charges could have stuck.

It was very uncalled for that Obama, admittedly not knowing the facts, called out the police for acting stupidly. Not only does it just sound stupid that he said it, but every single time someone gets arrested and cries foul, is he going to make the same statement for them? Likely not. He needs to not worry about his friend acting a fool outside his house, and worry more about his position as President and how disappointing it's been thus far.

Thank you very much! You did an excellent job explaining the facts, why is this so hard for race baiters to understand. Common sense means nothing to these people.

I saw a report on the news where an African-American police officer was there and said the arresting officer did nothing wrong. There was also a Hispanic PO there who said the same thing.

Actually yes. It was 1979. My father, mother and myself had moved from Murray, Ky back to St. Louis. We were moving into a first story flat. The police were called and came because someone was breaking into the flat. My father and mother were both upset. We all had to identify ourselfs.

I told the officer if people were really watching they would have saw that we were moving stuff into the flat and not out of.

The only thing I feel the Mr. Gates did wrong was step outside his home. Just because a person has a uniform on doesn't mean he or she is automatically right. Also Mr. Gates may not have gotten so upset if the officer had given his name and badge number as requested.

So, should you be upset at the officer or the people who made the initial call to the police? The officer was responding to a call. He investigated and asked for ID...

That's as far as I can comment because you didn't give any more details on the encounter. But, up to that point, I'm not sure what they're supposed to do.

Also, I may be misunderstanding the police report, but it read as if the officer was going to leave without arresting Gates until he followed him outside and berated him in front of a crowd of witnesses.

Bingo. He told Gates that if he had any other questions he would talk to him outside. Instead of Gates just staying in the house and letting the officer leave he followed him outside and continued his idiotic tirade. At which point he was warned twice to stop or he would be arrested. He chose to continue and was arrested like any white, black, yellow, red, or green person would have been.

Harvard has the smartest idiots in the country.

1) Don't know how police reports work but is it correct to assume that someone, possibly the witness provided on the report, verified the legitimacy of said report?

2) "I'll speak with your mama outside." Really? I mean, you're teaching some of the smartest kids in America and that's it? I'd hate to be a student that disputes a grade. Not sure I could swallow being told that my mama's so stupid she takes 2 hours to watch 60 Minutes.

3) I had a black coworker tell me the "This is how black people are treated..." argument would be over with a black president. Guess not.

Black, white, purple, yellow; this cat's a very, very intelligent fool.

Upon reviewing it and the police report is from the perspective of the police officer, this Professor looked like he was begging to be arrested in the name of racism.

While I know racism is still prevalent in the world, actions such as this do nothing but increase a racial divide and heighten tensions. To further expound, you have a leader in a Harvard Professor taking things to an extreme not necessary.

I will be the first to admit I would be frustrated with a police officer questioning me about where I live if I was actually at my place, but that does not mean I would react this way. The cop was in a no win situation and Gates did nothing to diffuse it.
