Crash was reaffirming my notion that the majority of us would be legitimately frustrated if put in Gates' situation. However, that does not empower one to react the way Gates did, and I feel confident that the majority of those you indicted (i.e. defenders of the cop), would not have reacted the exact same way.

Same here, I've actually been in a very similar situation but I was more scared than mad.

Obama acted the part of a complete fool in this. The officer and the Cambridge Police did exactly what was supposed to be done. When you act like an idiot, you get arrested. Prof. Gates also acted the part of a fool and got what would happen to you or I for the same bad behavior.

Obama did nothing more than to fan the flames of racism, something a President should have enough sense to know better than to do. I love how he talked about not slinging around accusations when that was EXACTLY what he did himself.

But we're not just talking about being disrespectful here now are we? He didn't comply with the officer. It's really that simple. Try it yourself, I guarentee you end up in the back of a cruiser headed to jail.

You speak of accountability, we all must remember that the police aren't the only ones that have accountability. Quite simply, had Gates just complied instead of spewing racist rants, none of this would be a problem. It's always the cops fault, never the fool acting up. :idunno:

However, blacks and whites have traditionally come from a different perspective when it comes to law enforcement. Thus, Mr. Powell's comment is more interesting than a 65 year old white guy saying the same thing. They're both right. However, they're saying it for different reasons.

I just don't even see how there are any people actually arguing that Gates was in the right. It really has everything to do with his outbursts, and a complete lack of personal responsibility.

 

Guarantee if it had been an old white man dealing with a black officer, the same thing would have occured [as far as an arrest] and there would be no public outcry about it.
