July 25, 200917 yr No Uk the funny thing is that the woman who called the police was a neighbor. She didn't know who Gates was. Also as a cop, wouldn't the normal thing to do would be hey sir I'm here on a breaking and entering call. May I see some ID please. Once Gates proved to be the owner, the cop should have left and taken everybody else with him no matter what Gates said or not. Cops catch grief all the time when a person is given a speeding ticket as a matter of fact you see shows all the time on it. In one instance after taking a big time lashing from a speeder the cop gave him the ticket and said have a nice day sir and walked away from the angry driver. Yea the driver got his words in but at the end of the day the cop won because the driver got the ticket. There was no physical confrontation then let it be. You know cops aren't above the law either and have to have thick skin sometimes. Also UK what has Gates ever done to warrant any of this?? He's an outstanding citizen? Also if the cop was right then why were the charges dropped?? Also for whoever said that the black cop agreed, come on, there are tokens for every ethnicity. Just look at the head of republican party, use a black man to bring down another one. Maybe the neighbor didn't see his face.
July 25, 200917 yr Maybe the neighbor didn't see his face. Oh now the neighbor didn't see his face. They also said the man is very frail and walks with a cane?? Hummm???
July 25, 200917 yr Oh now the neighbor didn't see his face. They also said the man is very frail and walks with a cane?? Hummm??? I used the word "maybe" in my post. Here we go again with the extremes. It doesn't have to be either 100% one way or 100% the other way.
July 25, 200917 yr I have missed the whole "scripted questions" issue. Can someone fill me in on how we know that President Obama and his staff are getting questions set up ahead of time and how, if true, this differs from previous administrations? Anyone? Anyone? Or is this just partisanship again?
July 25, 200917 yr http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/showthread.php?t=184582&highlight=taser Here you go...even has video, so that you can see for yourself. I thought the cop acted accordingly. She was warned multiple times. As a side note, I hate that I missed that thread. spindoc made one of the funniest posts I have ever read on here.
July 25, 200917 yr Oh now the neighbor didn't see his face. They also said the man is very frail and walks with a cane?? Hummm??? What does any of that have to do with Gates acting like an idiot, then after repeated warnings continuing to act disorderly?

The normal thing for a cop would not be to just saunter on up to the guy and calmly ask him for some ID. He followed procedures to a tee. Once he found out he was dealing with the owner of the home, he would have left had Gates not started a racial tyraid. Gates blew a gasket, and after being warned multiple times to stop, only then was he arrested. What did he do to warrant being arrested? He was disorderly in public to a police officer, that's disorderly conduct. People get arrested for it all the time. He's an outstanding citizen? You know Gates personally? Maybe that explains the extreme and outlandish ways your defending him. Why were there no charges filed? It was a disorderly conduct arrest. From what I've been told, many times no charges result from those incidents.
July 25, 200917 yr Oh now the neighbor didn't see his face. They also said the man is very frail and walks with a cane?? Hummm??? So I ask you again, since you keep avoiding answering the question....What was the cop supposed to do? He was responding to a 911 call that a concerned neighbor saw a man trying to force his way into a house. A house that apparently, had been broken into before. Should he have just ignored the call, because you know, it MIGHT be the homeowner?

What is it that you know about law enforcement??? Where does it state in procedures that when a man is in his own house a cop can walk in uninvited?? What about trespassing??? What about search warrants??? The cop should have asked for an ID. I'm curious have you ever had a ticket before??? Even a person who is obviously drunk by his or her driving when pulled over is asked by the police for drivers license, insurance, and registration. You know that is the only way you can find out who is who, but you have to take into consideration that this man was probably tired from a long flight from China. Then has to come home to stuff like this. Come on man give me a break. The cop is supposed to be the bigger one here and say thank you sir there was obviously a mistake here. How else are you identified UK??

Yeah, I'm an accountant, I guess that means I can't know anything about law enforcement. The cop did ask for an ID. Not sure where you're coming up with this stuff, but it's comical. Who cares if he just got back from China. If the guy was cooperative and wouldn't have been confrontational and screaming from the get go this would have never happened. 2 questions: 1) You don't think Gates did anything unacceptable? 2) If Gates were white, would you have the same reaction?

Know I didn't say you couldn't know anything about law enforcement just like you can't say that obviously I don't. You don't know what I do. If you are inside a prison with convicted felons and there is a non-physical altercation, what do you do???? Also I man can act any way he wants to inside and outside his house and property to where it doesn't hurt anyone. I mean do you want someone to tell you what to do on your own property??? No I don't think he did anything unacceptable, all I know is that it was his property and that is all that matters. Once the cop found out he should have left immediately regardless of what Gates said because I probably would have acted the same. Gates being black has nothing to do with it. Personally I don't care what color the guy is it shouldn't have happened. You don't think that the lady calling in saying the two suspects were black didn't have a thing to do with it???

Also UK what is comical about this. Until stuff like this happens to you, you have no bone in this fight. You know minorities are tired of this stuff happening all the time and lets not forget about the minorities who don't have the prominence of Gates or for better word the commons. This happens everyday and if you are going to sit here and be so judgmental over something you have definitely not experience is ignorant are since you are an accountant, then stupid. I know you know better.
July 26, 200917 yr Actually that would be 100% false. Okay woods then what happens. I've been to plenty of wild get togethers outside and when the police come into a less black neighborhood they make exceptions. They ask for the owner, and then ask to please keep it quiet. Case closed nothing more or less. On the more black neighborhoods two or three come fo the same disturbance and there is a difference in the tone of voice and the cops hang around lil longer just to see.
July 26, 200917 yr Regardless of anything, he does NOT have the right to act disorderly outside his own home, shouting that the cop is racist among other things. A very simple showing of identification to clear matters up, a "thank you" for taking time to check to make sure no one was in fact breaking into his residence, and a good evening between both parties would have sufficed. He was very deserving of his arrest, and if not for all the whining about it, the charges could have stuck. It was very uncalled for that Obama, admittedly not knowing the facts, called out the police for acting stupidly. Not only does it just sound stupid that he said it, but every single time someone gets arrested and cries foul, is he going to make the same statement for them? Likely not. He needs to not worry about his friend acting a fool outside his house, and worry more about his position as President and how disappointing it's been thus far.
