Griffey picks Braves over Mariners

Featured Replies

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. — Ken Griffey Jr. has chosen to sign with the Braves, according to a person close to the veteran star and familiar with the ongoing negotiations. Griffey and Braves general manager Frank Wren met Monday in Orlando, and Wren and Griffey's agent were scheduled to meet today in an effort to finalize a deal.

The Braves would be adding a 13-time former All-Star who’s one of six players to hit 600 or more home runs.

What is the likelyhood he beats the Reds with a dinger this season?

I'm happy to hear this news. I hope he has a great season for the Braves. :thumb::thumb:

I just hope he is able to stay healthy for the whole season. The Atlanta Braves have been my team since I was very young and I remember seeing Griffey when he first entered the league and he quickly became one of my favorite players. I love it now that he is offically a Brave!

Well that'll be weird seeing him in a Braves uniform. Then again, I will be seeing Smoltz in a Red Sox uniform, so comparatively this will be normal.

I think its just about time for ole Ken to think about retiring

Not to familiar with this situation, but I would think he would want to end his career with the Mariners. What is his reason for going to Atlanta?

Didn't he receive death threats when he left Seattle ? I wouldn't want to go back either. Plus, it's Seattle...

Guess he feels he has a better chance for a championship in Atlanta than he would out in Seattle. I think I would choose Atlanta as well for weather purposes alone.

Atlanta also trains about 15 minutes from his house where he can still go watch his kids play ball during basketball season.

I'd imagine that was the key to all of this...

To quote Roger C., I may be misremembering, but I was thinking nine years ago when Griffey left Seattle he wanted to go to either Cincinnati or Atlanta. I guess Cincinnati provided the best deal. Am I right about this?
