You would think that with as much media that this tournament brings, now throw in all the folks from the 10th Region and what do you get. A great opportunity to showcase two regions in the same building and an arena that won't even allow a reporter to bring his laptop in to write a story about it??

 

I hope that the decision made by the arena is the correct one.

If not, just by looking at all media coverage that you listed above, it would be a HUGE PR disaster for them.

I don't have a problem with doing things on tape delay either. I talked to the CovCath guys tonight and they are of the same feeling. It's much better if it was live, but I'll take what we can get as long as it's "fee free".

One of the facts I think they've (NKU arena mgt.) overlooked is that unlike NKY and the 9th region; many of the 10th region schools have local radio stations that broadcast (and have broadcast) their games for many, many years?? While schools like Brossart and CovCath have pioneered internet radio up here, these are "for profit" radio stations that have lots of history in the smaller communities!! To deny them, and the "amatuer internet radio" guys the opportunity to send the games to their many fans is absurd!! Like theoldguy said these broadcasts go out to many friends & family that may not be otherwise be able to listen to the games.

 

Shame on BOK arena management--Not the way to build community good will, and a sure way to never see a return of this joint event!! I doubt this is what the Bank of Kentucky had in mind when they got behind NKU and paid for the naming rights for this fine arena????

On the bolded, it was my understanding that local businesses in the Mt. Sterling area were to guarantee that all 2007 10th Region participant schools would receive revenues equal to the 2006 figure.

Just wondering; it was this time last year that we heard a lot about that.

No webcast, no radio, no photographers. Next they'll be strip-searching the fans. Heaven forbid you try to sneak in an affordable hot dog or bag of popcorn. A digital camera might get you a lifetime ban from the place.

 

Hopefully the right decision will be made; if not this has the makings of a PR disaster of biblical proportions.

Hey, I was just kidding...trying to make the point that now that we have opened Pandora's Box, by having the 10th Region Tournament in the third different venue in the past three tournaments, what's to prevent the 38th District from having the tournament anywhere it likes....

 

Could maybe strike a deal to use Memorial Coliseum in Lexington or the Civic Center in Frankfort...why not have it at Harrison Co or Pendleton Co. or Deming...Nicholas Co. is supposedly going to have a new gym up and running by the 2010-11 season.

 

Why does the Regional Tournament HAVE to be held in a large venue? I guarantee if it was held at any of the four schools in the 38th, every session would sell out.

 

Tickets would be at a premium...demand is greater than supply...and ticket prices shoot up.

 

Could adopt a local ordinance that allowed temporary scalping licenses and charge a $500 fee to get that license.

 

There's no end to the possibilities.

Highland Heights, KY – The Bank of Kentucky Center (an SMG managed facility) at Northern Kentucky University is extremely excited to be in partnership with both the 9th and 10th Regions to host their respective high school basketball tournaments, March 2-10, 2009.

 

In this joint venture, a financial commitment has been made by The Bank of Kentucky Center to each participating school from 10th Region and every school within the 9th Region will receive funds.

 

In order to ensure and maximize the funds to each participating school, The Bank of Kentucky Center, after consulting with representatives from each region, has made the decision to restrict the broadcasting of these games. Participating schools that reside outside a 30-mile radius from the Center will be given the opportunity to broadcast (via radio only) their respective school’s games. Should any of the 9th or 10th region games individually sell-out, one week prior to date of play, the Center will allow for that game to be broadcast via radio, Internet and/or television.

 

“The Bank of Kentucky Center is excited to host both regions’” said Molly Pascucci, general manager of The Bank of Kentucky Center, “We are very proud, for the first time ever, to offer a financial commitment back to the students of each participating school.”
