What really is a shame here is that no one at BOKC seems to care about the handicapped, elderly, the servicemen whether they are here in the USA or overseas, aunts, uncles, grandparents, sisters and brothers who go to college out of town or heck out of the state, and fans who just can't afford to attend the games or work a second shift job. These are the folks who I know BB and CovCath Internet Radio Network do the games for. You would be surprised over the years where some of the E-mails have come from or how many thank you have been given to Mark, Dave and crew thanking them for doing the games. Heck even the other teams fans thank the CovCath and BB crews for doing the games,

 

It just doesn't make sense that a company that is running a very public building for a hs tournament that I can only assume that what to hold for years and years is seemly screwing up a great thing that has been done for years....

This is interesting, but its not going to effect me. I just bought my tickets at Ticketmaster today. Looking forward to this great event.

We too have had listeners e-mail in. Families from all over the state and the country listening. Haven't had one from overseas yet, but we all (broadcasters) provide the service free of charge for the most part (All "A" Network charged for the broadcasts from Richmond) for everyone who wants to listen. I think that's why we do it. For those who can't make it.

To add: The whole line of "it might keep some people from coming in to see it live" is a lame one. It's the one the NFL uses, and this ain't the NFL. These people running this tournament need to get this big-time idea out of their heads. This is high school sports, not some cut-throat business.

When you take the tournament out of the hands of 10th Region folks and give it to a corporate entity, all of that "personal touch" is gone.

 

I understand that the $4375 guarantee is a positive, but outside of the last two years, $4375 would be a "bad" year for a regional payout. There were many years when the $5500 threshold was reached and the non-participating teams earned a check as well.

 

I also understand that the "guarantee" given to the 9th Region teams, who admittedly got their collective feet in the BOK door first, is substantially higher than what 10th Region schools will be paid out....seems like I heard something in the neighborhood of $6500 per school.

 

You all can harp all you want about this being the last year for the BOK, but I would almost guarantee, when its the 37th's turn again, it will be right back there.

 

Contrary to what was reported earlier, the four schools in the 38th District have not officially voted to have the 2010 tournament at Mason County...as a matter of fact, I believe there is a push to host it at Harrison County...seats 2500 or so and at $10 a ticket, that would be $25,000 a session or $100,000 for the entire tournament...I think all 2500 seats would sell out, don't you?

 

Second option is to have the tournament at Pendleton County next year....1500 seats at $15 per ticket or $22,500 per session...four session would be $90,000.

Don't forget about Deming. If you get out a map and take a good look, you won't find a more central location. At least there would be some benefit to that.

 

Another point that is really sad about all of this is that for years, people have regarded this tournament as a social occasion , an opportunity to visit with those you haven't seen in a while. Older people aren't into e-mails, text messaging and facebook. This venue totally removes that scenario as well. Even last year, and everyone should remember how I felt about that, you could get up and go visit with people from other communities that you hadn't seen in a while, but with assigned seats this year, you may as well be in Rupp arena.

 

I was also told today that the students would sit in the end zones and would be told to vacate that area after their team played, so another student section could come in. Where are they supposed to go, sit in other people's seats? This sounds like another mess to deal with.

 

I can only imagine what it will be like for children. Are those ushers in yellow jackets going to be entertainers and babysitters? Unless you order your tickets together with the parents of your children's friends or just get lucky the kiddies won't be sitting anywhere near their friends to keep them entertained. When I mentioned some of these new findings to my mother, who has been attending this tournament for many, many years she replied "the heck with this mess, I'll stay home and listen to the games on the radio". Of course I had to tell her the information regarding that situation as well.

 

Congratulations Mr. Strong and the 37th district, you are going to remove everything that for years has made the 10th regional tournament special!!!!

I agree with you on these two points. I have said all along that they should only have reserve seating for about the first 6 or so rows, and everything else is general admission. People could still save seats for friends who will show up a little later, and this allows for groups who usually sit together at games to do so. It also allows for friends and all to meet up and sit together for awhile, can't do that this year. Last time I was over Cintas for the Ohio playoffs the seats were GA.

 

There is enough room where students can have their little sections and not be pushed behind the baskets. I was at the UK game Vs Florida last week, in the section right behind the UK bench, seems UK has enough room to put students in the section right across the isle to the left. Why can't the BOK? I am expecting a very good turn out, but nothing that will fill all lower level seats. But of course, with GA seating, a schools entire cheering section, students, parents ect all could gather together.

 

But again, as long as they work out the FREE radio and internet broadcast by multiple stations, as well as allow for FREE TV tape delay, then the other stuff can be worked out by next year.

They won't have a choice. All 4 games are scheduled during the day on Saturday. What are they going to do with the bands? Are we prohibiting them also?

No, you can't prohibit the bands, and I would encourage the schools to bring the bands. I just remember going to the Sweet 16 as a student in Louisville at Freedom Hall. We had the worst seats in the house as students. We were sitting near the ceiling with big heat vents blocking the view of the game.

I talked to my contact at the arena tonight. He relayed to me that they have received your e-mails. They now KNOW the impact that this has on the area. That said, they would not let me know anything tonight. I have been told that they are going to have a press release first thing in the morning that is going to go over their final decision. I will post the release when I get it in the morning.

 

I respect my contact at the arena so I did not press him for more than that. He did say that I will get it first. So you will have it first.

 

I read on Ryan Ernst's blog that they won't even let him bring in his laptop to write stories. The 9th region has a 3 year deal with the arena and the 10th only a one year. Personally I can't believe that this will be renewed unless a concession is made for local media to be allowed in. I guess this means that the other local TV will not be allowed in to film their segments. Just my opinon.

Guaranteed money for the schools in a place that beats the heck out of any other place. Let them run it as they see fit!
