So if I read this correctly, participants from the 39th and 40th districts can be broadcast via radio. And POSSIBLY the 38th?

This is very disappointing . . not only as fan of NKY sports but as a graduate of NKU and resident of NKY. I don't see how this decision "ensures and maximizes the funds to each participating school". Wonder how they came up with the 30-mile radius?

I'm not a lawyer or anything, but do they have the legal right to only allow schools broadcast if they're outside a 30-mile radius?

All of this hassle and everyone is talking about wanting to move the All A to there.

I just forwarded my e-mail response to BOK.

 

Lets just keep filling up some e-mail boxes. I have a ton of respect for the folks who broadcast/webcast these high school games. They are not getting rich by doing this and offer a valuble service to the fans of the teams they represent and to the fans from the other teams who listen to the games live or the archived version.

Check out Danny's blog, MCpapa. Our worry now is that should Bracken/Augusta make it, we're right on the cusp of covering those games (they may be affected by this radius). Now, instead of covering the entire tournament like WFTM has for years (as have WMST and WCYN), we would only be able to broadcast Mason County and St. Patrick for sure. And obviously it shuts out any possibility of 37th district "home station" coverage, as well as any internet coverage whatsoever. So while having the no-broadcast ban lifted is a start, this still doesn't solve being able to have anyone outside of our listening area hear these games. I don't want to speak out of school, but I don't believe the 10th region radio conglomerate is yet anywhere near pleased.

9th & 10th Region High School Tournament Getting Closer

Highland Heights, KY – In order to ensure and maximize the funds to each participating school, The Bank of Kentucky Center, after consulting with representatives from each region, has made the decision to restrict the broadcasting of these games. Participating schools that reside outside a 30-mile radius from the Center will be given the opportunity to broadcast (via radio only) their respective school’s games. Should any of the 9th or 10th region games individually sell-out, one week prior to date of play, the Center will allow for that game to be broadcast via radio, Internet and/or television.

Correct, Dan Manley in Mount Sterling and Jim Swinford for Harrison County. Sadly, they (and we) don't have near this amount of red tape when it comes to the Sweet 16, which all stations cover just as they always have with region. While today's press release is a bit of a concession, it's nowhere near resolved.
