Are the people who run the BOK at NKU even from this area? Just wondering. Hopefully if this gets to the right people this will get changed, and stay that way! The Cintas Center works with HS events and has been stated are VERY accommodating for the schools, radio and internet broadcasts, and do not charge at all!

 

For years just about everyone in NKY has been saying we need a new arena at NKU, we finally get one, I hope this isn't the way the arena intends to treat the schools, fans and tax payers. If so, I'd rather drive the extra 5 miles and see KY schools play at Cintas.

I just read through all seven pages of this thread, being that I am an NKU student, a Boone Co. grad and I know how passionate we all are about our high school basketball. With that being said, I believe that by e-mailing NKU President James Vortruba could be a good idea. I know him personally and he is a very community-driven guy, I am sure people who have met him would agree with me. If not, oh well. But, he might not be able to do anything about this. I have been frustrated as a student several times with the BOKC, however I have continually been told that NKU doesn't technically own it or whatever, I don't know. So, he might not be able to do anything expect for pass on your alls displeasure.

 

I would like to say one thing about people not being thrilled about playing here at the BOKC. I think it definitely benefits the two teams, from both regions, to have played several games on a college size floor. Gives them a little experience before going to Rupp. I know that isn't exactly what the thread is about, but just trying to show a little positive in the games being here. And I know for the 9th Region at least, it will fit more fans than Conner, Ryle, and Holmes.

I have not. My contact is with the folks at the arena. As soon as I hear of the results of the meeting, I'll be sure to post it here.

Can anyone confirm that all seating for the 9th & 10th region games will be reserved seating? At one time we were told that there would be particular sections for each school which were more or less general admission. I believe this is similar to the setup at Rupp Arena regarding tickets. Therefore, if tickets are purchased prior to the event, you stand the chance of being on the opposite side of the arena from your team. Is this the correct understanding?

All seats are reserved. No general admission. There are student sections I believe set up under the baskets, like at the State Tournament, but no GA.

As promised, I did correspond with Anthony Strong, the Superintendent of Campbell County Schools, and the chairman of our 37th District's group bringing the 10th Region tournament to the BOKC, here in Northern Kentucky.

I have yet to see anyone say how positive it is that the teams in the 10th are guaranteed an amount prior to entering the tournament. ($4375) This is $1119 more than last year, and $233 more than 2007. In these tough economic times for schools you would think that there would be some credit given rather than criticism."

 

" I do think that there will be some resolution to this situation this week. I don’t know that it will satisfy everyone, but sometimes it is hard to make everyone happy. I do appreciate your faith in me getting this worked out."

 

I agree that each and every entity might not be able to function as we have in the past, and I advocate at very least setting up a "network" broadcast, perhaps WFTM in Maysville, serving as our anchor station, to which the rest of us can link to for all of the 10th Region games.

 

Whatever the outcome, I have total faith that Mr. Strong will do his best to come to a mutually agreeable solution.

As promised, I did correspond with Anthony Strong, the Superintendent of Campbell County Schools, and the chairman of our 37th District's group bringing the 10th Region tournament to the BOKC, here in Northern Kentucky.

Mr. Weddle does a great job, but so does Montgomery Co's Dan Manley. It just makes no sense to me not to let each radio station broadcast the games.

Comparing the Region Tournament to the Sweet 16 is hardly an apples-to-apples comparison. The Region tournaments have always been the final level of truly local, community-oriented HS basketball. No shunting of the kids into "student sections" in the end zones, for crying out loud. :ohbrother:

 

A Region tournament patterned after the Sweet 16 in terms of seating, broadcasts, etc., loses its appeal...

 

I provide something of a Region 8 "network" of sorts, in that I am the only broadcaster who broadcasts EVERY game of the region. I've done this for many years, so even the schools without radio/internet coverage get their games broadcast. But I would never propose to the 8th that they make me the "official network" and that they keep out the crews that want to carry their school's games (like WXLN FM 93.3 out of Shelby County) or someone like Buttels, who covers the northern KY 8th Region schools... Hearing that familiar voice coming through your radio/PC speakers means a lot. Hearing that familiar announcer means a lot more than mere "coverage."

 

Forget the additional monies the schools receive. I don't think $1,000 more is worth what you're giving up.

 

The beauty of the region tournaments has always been the roots in the community. The teams are all familiar with each other...the fans are often neighbors...the announcers local and inherently knowledgeable about the teams. The kids crowd the sidelines like they do at home games... It's a pity the 9th and 10th powers-that-be seem to be forgetting this...

 

You guys will remain in my thoughts...if anyone thinks my opinion would matter any to the powers-that-be up there in NKY, I'd be happy to send my thoughts along.

We were told back at a previous game broadcasted from the BOKC earlier this year that there were "5 or 6 outgoing lines," not to mention cell and wireless capabilities. At that event, they were very hospitable as well. It seems to me they have the availability and access for everyone that wants to broadcast, but have, for whatever reason, decided to allow none of it. I for one am very interested to see how today's meetings turn out. I imagine that a lot of people (some of which may not even be involved) had their inboxes and voice mailboxes flooded this morning. If there is such a thing, looks the trickle-up effect may be going on as we speak!

On the bolded, it was my understanding that local businesses in the Mt. Sterling area were to guarantee that all 2007 10th Region participant schools would receive revenues equal to the 2006 figure.

I have already talked to the tech folks at NKU that handle the network for the arena. We're fine there. We did broadcast the Bluegrass/Buckeye classic from the arena and weren't charged a fee for that one. That's what blows me away for this one.

The 8th has always been good to me as far as being accomodating. There are more and more folks that have started webcasting. Ryle just started up this year. I totally agree with the Colonel on the familiar voice aspect. We'll be promoting the Colonels broadcasts as well as our own if we can make it into the BOKC!!

This is interesting, but its not going to effect me. I just bought my tickets at Ticketmaster today. Looking forward to this great event.
