February 14, 200917 yr Author No Late Fees: Membership rules apply for rentals. Rentals are due back at the date and time stated in the transaction receipt. There is no additional rental charge if a member keeps a rental item upto 7 days beyond the prepaid rental period. After 7 days beyond the due date, BLOCKBUSTER will automatically convert the rental to a purchase on the 8th day and will charge the member the selling price for the item in effect at the time of the rental, minus the rental fee paid. Member then has 30 days to return the product and receive a credit for the selling price charged, less a $1.25 stocking fee. These terms are available at participating stores only. Franchisee restocking fees may vary. See blockbuster.com for complete terms and conditions. Sorry but I think the rule is pretty clear. It is. I had the movies 20 days. I think the manager was psychotic.
February 14, 200917 yr I had the exact same experience at the BB in cold Spring (sans the cashier wanting to pay for them, that was stupid). Anyway, I had talked at mananger by phone before I turned the movie in. He had said that since they were not holding a current credit card # they could not charge the card, only hold an amount for the movie purchase. That if I returned the movie, even after the 20 days, I would not be charged. I dropped the movie off in the drop box thinking that it would be taken care of. After two weeks, I returned to rent another movie. They said I owed the money to purchase the returned movie. I told them, I returned it, they already have it. She checked a drawer and there it was with a return ticket taped to it. You still have to pay for it, and I will give it to you she said. "Whoa". I left. Another two weeks later, I went back to talk to a manager to clear this up. This time, the manager could not find the movie at all. She looked everywhere. Finally, she said, it must have been put back in circulation, I will credit your account. I wouldnt leave until she printed a reciept that showed a "0" balance. All is good.
February 14, 200917 yr Author This is what is on the front of the reciept. Starting Tuesday Aug. 5 2008 the rental terms on the back of this reciept have changed. In select stores including this store rental product kept more than 5 days after the due date is converted to a sale. Sale may be reversed by returning the product within 10 days of the sale date and paying a 1.25 restocking fee. This change supercedes any contadictory term on the back of the this reciept. So basically you have bought the item 10 days after the rental and you have 10 more to have that reversed. Simple enough. I went back to the store this morning to try and resolve the issue and to terminate my memebership at Blockbuster. And guess who's there. Yes Miss Blockbuster herself. I kindly ask her to look up my account. I have been patronizing this store since 1998. I asked her about her paying for the movies, and she told me she actually had not swiped her card as it appeared that she had. She told me she had corporate clear the charge from my account. Great, when I asked her why she refused to do that last night while I was there she had no response except sorry. When I asked her about the dramatic act of her paying with her personal card with about 10 people in line. She had no response. I think the manager having to pay is a ruse to get the patron to pay. But I did offer to pay, so I'm not sure. I asked her who she called to get the balance off my account, she wouldn't tell me. I asked her if it was policy to treat 11 year patrons in this fashion. No answer. I made sure my account was closed before I left. I am appalled at the lack of customer service. What happened to the customer is always right? And if the office could excuse the charge, why was this not done before the relationship was damamged. I have 4 kids so you can imagine how much money I have spent at this store. Well, no more. It will be Netflix from here on out. Darn shame that in this economy that a customer of such faith and tenure is treated like this.
February 14, 200917 yr Surely this is derived from animosity that Corbin is still ranked below Lexington Catholic. Only in America, baby!

February 14, 200917 yr This thread reminds me of the line from Tombstone: "Where's Wyatt?", "Oh, he is down my the river, walking on water". I'm not sure that it has sunk in, though.
February 14, 200917 yr Just had an interesting experience at Blockbuster. Went down to rent a couple of movies for the weekend. Had a couple to return, and they were late. Walked in, put the 2 movies I had in the return slot, and proceeded to pick up a the 2 movies for tonite. When I get to the cashier, I am expecting to get hit with 1.25 for the restocking fee, since they don't charge late fees any more. Well miss cashier takes my card, looks up my account and tells me I have 2 items on the account. I tell her, "yes I know, I turned them in." She then explains to me they are 20 days late. I say OK, what are you trying to tell me? She then tells me that after 20 days you bought them. First I asked, why I hadn't been called. She was sure we had been called. I don't think so. Then I asked as to how I was informed of this policy. I said I see the 1.25 restocking fee nex to the proclamation of no late fees. Nowhere does it say 20 days and they're yours. She tells me it is in the fine print on the reciept. OK great. Now the 34 dollar question. What are you to charge me for these two movies which I have returned? Yep. 34 bucks. I then tell her, nope, aint happenin. I want to see a manager. She is now becoming a little upset with me, and tells me she is the manager, and if I refuse to pay for them , then she would have to pay for them herself. And I told her that was even more stupid than me paying for them. Why would you have to pay for two movies that have been returned in good shape? At this point I'm more in shock than anything else. I feel I have to try one more time. I ask to provide me with her supervisor, to which she responds "they will tell you the same thing." I again reiterate that I have been renting at this location for years, and I feel that I should not have to buy these movies. She again restates that she would have to if I didn't. Then she gets out her purse and pulls out a credit card. I said hold on, I will pay for them, but you will never see my face in this store again. She just looks at me and swipes her card! She pretty much then hands me the movies and asks me to leave the store. I put the movies down and left. Amazing! Anyone use Netflix?? If that girl ran her own credit card through for your movies she is an idiot. I refuse to go to that place anymore. I had it out with them over the same thing. Son takes movie to his mom's and forgets, they charge my credit card on file automatically after 20 days or whatever. I see it and ask what is going on, then we find the movie and they say sorry its yours. I said great, you will never see me in here again and I havent gone back. That was over a year ago. They are too high anyway, its a ripoff. I have HBO and that is enough, I am not that desperate to see movies to be quite honest.
February 14, 200917 yr This is funny to read. I can't believe Blockbuster has people is such an uproar. I agree though I have kept a movie that long truthfully because I had forgot about it. It happens.
February 14, 200917 yr  I'm not sure that it has sunk in, though. As long as you got it, it was worth it.
February 14, 200917 yr I think I would send my story to the Blockbuster corporate office, including this manager's name. I bet you see some action.
