With all of this back and forth between private school vs. public school, makes me want to say this to all the 6A fans who are pouting about Trinity being private. What about the 1A schools??? Beechwood just won their 11th state title. However, I am pretty sure Beechwood is an independent school, which means any athlete from anywhere if they want to pay, can go to Beechwood. 6A schools should be able to compete with X and T because they get a huge pool of young men to pull from. How do the smaller schools such as Bellevue, Gallatin, Trimble, Frankfort, etc compete with Beechwood?? I believe the only team to give them a run for their money is LCA, which has to be a private school (Lex Christian). I played my high school ball in Louisville against the Shamrocks and I agree they are an efficient football machine, but can you blame them??? If there is an argument about unfairness in a state title game, look to your smaller classes it's OBVIOUS!!!

 

I am curious in what you are saying here. I am not that up-to-date on which private schools are all boys, all girls or mix unless they are in the NKY area. How many of the schools in 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A & 5A are all private schools where it is all boys enrollment? I am going to go out on a limb and say if there was one or 2 all boys private school with the enrollment of X and T in NKY then maybe you would find a school that could compete with either one of these schools.

 

Another question here, how many teams that won state were independent schools or private schools?

Why should 2 teams from the same city play against each other in the State Championship? To me, that would be a flawed system.

Everyone, if honest, has known for a long time that the two best teams in the Commonwealth are/were Trinity and St. Xavier. The true championship game was last week and not last night. The result last night should have surprised no one and we all know that it could have been worse.

As for the "take a knee" brigade, I believe your frustration over the end result of the game has led you to produce a particularly bitter batch of sour grapes.

From the descriptions, it sounds like it came from near the endzone. So if it did happen (and I have no idea), maybe it was just a bunch of goofs that weren't there for either team.

The "Chant" is an urban legend. Could one or two idiots have done it? Sure, but there was no student body chant. I sat just to the left of the student section with my family - none of us heard anything like that...

That's not the point. But we'll drop the issue as it has no importance to the game.

I think it is better to have the non traditional teams in the championship. I think that losing in the championship means more to SK then it would have to X. Thats my opinion of course, but having T and X play in the semis essentially is the state championship...but at least another team from around the team, like SK, gets the opportunity to have that lifelong feeling of being in the state championship. I may be wrong, but to T and X, they arent worried about just making it to the big game. If they don't win it they aren't going to feel as good about losing the game as a different team. I don't know if this post makes sense, but its how I feel about it. I think it is good for football and goof for the other teams around the state. I mean, when I played high school basketball I dreamed of just making it to Rupp, I wouldn't have cared the outcome after that. I think its kind of like that for these teams that have the opportunity to play in the chamionship game now.

My octogenarian father-in-law (a St. X grad, I might add) said it best, "They were just outclassed." No brag, just fact. Simon Kenton did not like what Trinity was serving in the Pizza Box last night. It seems to have caused a lot of indigestion in the SK supporters on BGP. Their coach did what he thought he had to in order to ready his team to play and he has taken the high road after the game, from what I have read. I would like to say something positive about Trinity and compliment them on a magnificent performance last night, especially ther QB who went 12 for 12 last night and finished the season with the second highest completion percentage in KHSAA history behind only Tim Couch (74.8% to 75.1%).

I saw Coach Markesberry's very complimentary comments about T in this morning's Enquirer. Very gracious and classy man. Only "thing" I had about his comments was he said SK had no way of preparing for Trinity's offensive machine. You'd think that every N. Ky 6A school would be begging Mueller to put Highlands on their schedule to at least get a taste of what Trinity would bring to the table if there was a playoff matchup with T. While we don't run the same offense that T does (which is very, very impressive by the way), we do possess the high level of team speed and quickness that T does and with Highlands being in their back yards, it would only makes sense for any 6A team with real playoff thoughts to schedule us. Credit to Boone County's Thompson for putting Highlands on the schedule again next year and Ryle for continuing their series with Highlands. I hope SK does so in the near future. .......

 

........Congrats Rocks for another great season and State Championship. Trinity has an outstanding program and commitment to football. You are a credit to Ky high school football. You keep running hard, because it was force us to run harder in our chase to catch you. Which will only make both programs better.

I know Highlands talked seriously with T this year about playing the next two years but could not get the logistics worked out.

How about Mueller begging Beatty to put Trinity on their schedule??? Let's just see how that scenario whould play out.

"Taking a Knee" is a sign of mutual respect for any injured player. As a football parent I am always concerned when a player is injured, and thankful when he is not seriously injured. Congrats to these teams and best wishes in the future for all their seniors.

"Independent" means it's not of the county school system, Bellevue is independent of Campbell Co, as is Dayton. Is Frankfort part of the Franklin county system or "independent" of it? Raceland is independent of their county I believe, and they are pretty good as well. Is Hazard part of Perry Co's system? Are all of the non private schools in Jefferson County part of the Jefferson County system?

 

I believe the Kenton County schools (3 schools) now have open enrollment.

I was in the pressbox with several high school football officials. We watched the replay of the hit a number of times. It was agreed all around that the hit was not malicious or intentional.

 

I wish the best to the player and his parents. Congratulations to Simon Kenton for making it to the championship game and good luck next year.

Ask those high school officials if they ever heard Mr. Jullian Tackett say in any of his state clinics, if there is a chance that any hit looks close to being borderline illegal, there better be a penalty flag laying on the ground as they move the stretcher.

 

As for Trinity they are the team to beat. They set the mark very high. and congrats to them for the job they do, and I am sure they have some very classy fans. All I know is the fans and parents that sat behind my party where very rude. "Are they (Simon Kenton) wearing their practice uniforms?"

"Our freshman could beat these guys." "They will be bowing down and kissing our feet here shortly." The comments after SK'S QB was injured "Sorry people thats football GET OVER IT!" "Welcome to Louisville football,BUD!" "Next!"

 

These were "Adults" in thier 40's and 50's. One of them even had their 6 yr old grandchild with them.
