One word: UNPRECEDENTED.

Congrats to SK on a great season! Your late season run was very impressive.

 

I will have to say, as an Independence resident, I was very surprised (and ashamed, and I'm not even an SK fan) by the lack of support from the city. I was out today and didn't see a single sign of support for the city's only high school team. Oh, I take that back, I was fortunate enough to not blink as I drove by the city building. The electric sign out front flashed "Good Luck Simon....", and that's all I could read as it flashed so fast. Not a single business on old 17 had a sign.

 

You must not have seen nor heard the police cruisers and firetrucks along with some fans wishing the Pioneers good luck as they left. Also, there were several signs on the way down 71 wishing SK good luck. Oh yeah, and a final thing, the SK fans out-numbered the very local Trinity fans so I wouldn't question the support.

Impressive..

I'm sure that it was not malicious or intentional, but someone please tell me why it took 5 minutes before the Trinity sidelines took a knee and the Trinity team on the field NEVER took a knee? I found it disturbing to hear the Trinity cheerleaders and the Trinity fans singing "Hey, Hey, Hey..... GOODBYE" as our player was being wheeled off the field on a stretcher to the ambulance. The Simon Kenton players immediately took a knee, not for their quarterback that was down..............but for their FRIEND!

 

I was on the sidelines, standing approx 20 yds away from the T cheerleaders, and heard no such chants or singing from them. Don't know what some T fans in the bleachers close to the end where the young man was taken to the ambulance were doing, but I'm certain that the cheerleaders were not engaged in any such singing.

I saw Coach Markesberry's very complimentary comments about T in this morning's Enquirer. Very gracious and classy man. Only "thing" I had about his comments was he said SK had no way of preparing for Trinity's offensive machine. You'd think that every N. Ky 6A school would be begging Mueller to put Highlands on their schedule to at least get a taste of what Trinity would bring to the table if there was a playoff matchup with T. While we don't run the same offense that T does (which is very, very impressive by the way), we do possess the high level of team speed and quickness that T does and with Highlands being in their back yards, it would only makes sense for any 6A team with real playoff thoughts to schedule us. Credit to Boone County's Thompson for putting Highlands on the schedule again next year and Ryle for continuing their series with Highlands. I hope SK does so in the near future.

 

That out of the way, I do want to commend and congratulate SK for a great season. Well done coaches and young men. You know what adjustments and changes need to be made if you expect to be able to beat T down the road. I don't care how good Simpson is (and he is very good) you simply cannot beat T with the offense ran last night. I'm sure the qb getting knocked out of the game didn't help, but it was apparent by then that with T focusing Whiting and others on Simpson, SK's offense didn't have enough other options in the book to move the ball. The system got them to the state game, but to win state, there will need to be improvements. I'm sure Markesberry realizes this.

 

I was extremely impressed with the fan turn out by the SK supporters. That was very impressive indeed. Great job.

 

According to the Enquirer, Lawrence is okay, suffering a concussion. Hope he can make a full return next year (concussions in my opinion are much more serious injuries than blown knees, ankles, etc), but since this was his second concussion this year (again according to the Enquirer) I hope his parents have Chad thoroughly tested before they determine if he'll play again next year. Let's keep him in our prayers.:thumb:

 

Congrats Rocks for another great season and State Championship. Trinity has an outstanding program and commitment to football. You are a credit to Ky high school football. You keep running hard, because it was force us to run harder in our chase to catch you. Which will only make both programs better.

How about Mueller begging Beatty to put Trinity on their schedule??? Let's just see how that scenario whould play out.

Im sure the freshman and JV Rocks would love to play SK's and other NKy's freshman and JVs. Start there to get a taste of what its like.

I was also on the T side and never heard anything but worried comments about the hurt player. As a parent of a T player, whether it is your team's player or not, everyone is concerned and hoping the player is OK. Trinity hits hard all year - that is the game and that is how it is played.

 

They were singing it as they loaded him into the ambulance. It was disturbing.

 

Never happened - we would never do that - we have kids on that field too - it could happen to them - quit making things up.

"Taking a Knee" is a sign of mutual respect for any injured player. As a football parent I am always concerned when a player is injured, and thankful when he is not seriously injured. Congrats to these teams and best wishes in the future for all their seniors.
