Congratulations, young Tigers!

The Birds made their own bed that is for sure tonight.

 

Take nothing away from the Tigers as they have a very good squad. #40 Staton and #42 Vocke were the catalyst. Taylor Davis their QB was very good as well, especially staying in the pocket on that backbreaking 71 yrd TD throw across teh middle to Vocke.

 

I thought the Birds came out in the 2nd half and started blocking allowing True and McGurn to gain great yardage. McGurn's TD run was a thing of beauty, he has great field vision. True had a very good TD run called back by a holding penalty as well.

 

On Defense I thought Ben Dupont #1 played a whale of a game and tackled well. I noticed several kids wanting to tackle high though which either led to the Beechwood runner either shagging them off or carrying them for extra yardage.

 

Penalties killed the Birds. They had the Tigers pinned in their own territory and punting only down 7 with tons of time left and got called for illegal substitution. That is ridiculous and was the turning point of the game. This literally took the air out of the Birds.

 

Quillen #17 got hurt after the first series and never returned, does anyone have a report on him? Ringwald, Iles, Chambers all hurt and DNP in this game.Say all you want that was huge.

 

I thought the officials called a great game and there were some questionable calls like the personal foul on #37 for the Birds. I dont know what they want him to do to get him out of bounce other than give him a big kiss and sit him down. A few holding calls were not made that were huge but I think those probably went both ways.

 

Overall two good football teams going head to head. Like someone said in an earlier thread though, Frosh football doesnt necessarily equate to excellent Varsity football. With that said, I would bet this Beechwood Frosh class becomes a dominant force in Class A soon enough.

 

Highlands has no worries as this is a very athletic class with very nice numbers. I think I counted 40 kids on the squad that were in uniform.

 

Did McGurn's father/uncle/distant relation play for the Bellevue Tigers in the late 70s?

As I said in another thread, this might be the best freshmen team I have ever seen at Beechwood, and I have seen a lot.

 

Congratulations to the Beechwood Freshmen. You have set your goals very high. Can't wait to see what you accomplish in the next 3 years!

One comment. When a team is up 30 something to 15 and a boys helmet gets ripped off by an opposing player. Adults stand up and call FAKER FAKER to the face mask call and the child. Who has class?

 

That young man was hit from the back of his helmet and it came off. Hardly got "ripped off." The Highland player continued and played his best. Beechwood was more than adequately penalized for the call.

I was there, didnt hear anyone yell "faker, faker". Not saying it didnt happen as none of can or want to be held responsible by stupid things individuals say in the heat of the moment.

 

 

Perhaps you heard one or two parents yell "faker", but......get real. To make a "class" call among two great teams who played so well is digging pretty deep IMO.

 

Give the Tigers their due. It is rare that we have this moment. Try not to rain on it.

Let's all talk about the game, rather than what some fan heard/read/said, from the stands. It's not relevant, to the game and the Players deserve the recognition.

Congrats to the Tigers and Birds both on great seasons. I expect big things out of both classes. Both are very talented and have a slew of athletic players.

 

For the Highlands freshmen, keep your heads up. You'll see these same players at the JV and varsity level over the next two years and definetly get a chance to prove yourselves at FULL STRENGTH.

No excuses...they flat out beat us. Congrats to the BW Tigers on an undefeated season.

I think Dixie would have been a much better matchup for Beechwood.

Agreed! You just can't have mistakes like this when your gaining the Big "Mo" back. The other backbreaker was the 3 and 13, when the QB threw a seed to Vocke for a 1st down. He just happened to take it 60 something yards the rest of the way for a score. That kid is scary smooth!!!!:scared:
