As several of the HHS players sadly said after the game, Beechwood gave themselves home field advantage. They had actual cheerleaders, they had a sign that they ran thru coming onto the field which commended them on a great season, they had student section support with kids painted and cheering, their parents gave them standing ovations over and over.

There's really no excuse for that -- especially in our own house! Just curious, do we not have freshman cheerleaders this year? :confused:

That picture is when the pass is on its way, obviously while the pass was still completed, a little bit of pass interference. Taking nothing away from Beechwood's victory, but the ref. on the stadium side never flagged anyone, except on True's run at the end of the 1st half.

I cant understand it either. You would think a school that typically has 38-40 Varsity/Reserve cheerleaders on the sidelines on Friday nights could muster up 6 or 7 Frosh girls to cheer. Maybe it conflicts with Soccer/Volleyball, not sure but it was sad to see.

If this is the case, this is truly a sad state of affairs. I know that HHS does not have competitive cheerleading and in turn not a huge turnout each year as do the other schools that compete, but let's hope that the NEW coach who was a former student of mine will right the ship. I, being a former college cheerleader and coach for the past 15 years, volunteered to help at HHS but the "free help" was not welcomed by the former coach. I also spoke with the new coach and she told me she'd let me know. Henry, you told me awhile back to get involved. That's what I know and am good at but sometimes people are too proud and stubborn for the help. I would hate to think this is the reason that we don't have Frosh cheerleaders and nothing hurts worse when playing to not even have anyone cheering for you. The junior football league even has cheerleaders. Something is clearly wrong with this picture IF this is the truth.

 

As for the Frosh Birds: Men, the sun will come up and everything will move on. The one thing that you need to remember is that horrible feeling in your gut after the game last night and how badly you don't want to feel that ever again. Take that feeling with you into next year and it will help to guide you to righteousness. Good luck men and you will find your way.

The freshman girls cheerlead on the JV staff. Thanks to the Mom's that decorate the lockers, you are appreciated! These kids were playing for the Championship last night. There was a group of 9th grade girls non affiliated with the team that were going to make a banner for the boys to run through before the game. It didn't happen. What about the band, if not the HHS band, how about some frosh band members to play the fight song throughout the game. Lastly, waive the $2 fee for our students. Give the boys the support they deserve! Hopefully things change for next year's frosh. As far as this year's frosh, how about a 9th grade baseball team!

As far as cheerleaders, it could have something to do with title nine. We have JV cheerleaders but they do not cheer at the JV football games because they are only allowed to cheer so many games and they cheer at basketball and sometimes a half of the varsity football games. This is my guess.

 

I wish we didn't have to worry about title nine and you could have cheerleaders at every game and all the sports you wanted at a school. Just not that easy anymore.

Maybe it is, but obviously Beechwood had cheerleaders! Maybe someone from Beechwood could comment on how they maintain their excellent cheerleading program to the 9th grade level.
