They may have their mind made up, as have I. I have voted straight republican every election since my 1st. That being said, I think Gov Palin is way out of her element and does not add substance to the ticket. What she adds is demographics. She's a woman, she's a "Hockey Mom" (which I am now sick of hearing), she's middle class, she is a voice for special needs families. I think we ( I am a rep.) made a bad choice with her. Jeopardy spoof on Leno says it all about Palin. The question, 700 Billion? Palin answer, "how many questions I have avoided answering". Same from her last night.

Just got on and chose not to wade through this entire thread, and if this has already been said, forgive me. But the 2 things that stuck out most to me are these: in the event Biden became president, I would hate having to look him in the face and wonder how in the world his left eye is bigger than his right. If Palin was president, I would pray that we wouldn't ever have to hear her say "nucular" again. There's a phonics deal with that word, it's "nuke lee errrrrrrrr" not "nuke you lerrrrr". Sheesh.:confused:

I am sorry that I did not watch the debate, my mind was made up after the vote on the 700 Billion Dollar Bail-Out Plan, where both parties voted Yes. So much for a choice. :madman:

 

I have decided that I will vote for Bob Barr a libertarian. I disagree with his stance on abortion but I also understand that abortion is a dead issue. However, he seems like the only one who represents what I believe in as far as the economy goes. The self promotion of individualism which ultimately is what our country was founded on. We as a society have become to dependent on someone else to figure the problems out, let people slide, and let other people pay for it. Now I want to be clear, people do need help from time to time, but not a lifestyle, not when they made the choices. There at somepoint has to be some accountability. So where is it, (I know in heaven) but here in the United States? Please somebody answer this.

Seems like we have a bunch of strictly Republican voters on here...Palin was not good.

 

I'm normally about a 90% straight up DEMOCRATIC voter and I will still tell anyone that Palin won the debate last night.

I don't think, if measured by the same criteria, one won over the other. There was a different set of expectations for each, which means there was never a possibility that one could "win", per se.

 

The expectations of Biden were to demonstrate his strengths in foreign policy in particular, IMO. He did that, and did that VERY well.

 

The expectations of Palin were to prove that she could hold her own under pressure. I believe she held her own quite well.

 

However, depending on your expectations of the debate as a whole, it's difficult to declare a winner in most cases.

 

I know Biden's record, qualifications and positions, I learned nothing new.

I wanted to know more of Palin's positions, and learned some things, but not all that I wanted.

 

AS A DEBATE, meaning the back-and-forth on particular questions, it was fairly well done, but when one participant acknowledges they will not answer some questions, it is difficult to gauge the "win" on that topic. On the other hand, it does display that candidate's intent to control the situation at hand and play to their own strengths.

 

I'm glad I didn't wait for this debate to make up my mind. I'd still be undecided.

They both passed in that they met the first rule, do no harm. They've left the decision right where it belongs, McCain vs Obama.

Did anyone keep count of how many times Biden said, "I love John (McCain)"?

 

The bar was set low for Palin and she exceeded that bar. Now that does not mean she elevated herself to George Washington status. She is still green. No way of arguing otherwise. I, unlike a lot of people, do not think that is as bad of a thing as others.

 

Biden was Biden. He did what we all thought he would. He came off as an experienced Washington guy.

 

Sad state of our country if this is the best we can select from.

The poll would indicate that the majority agrees that she won the debate.

You obviously watched a different debate then, because neither of them really answered any of the questions.

These days, the debates are all about not making a significant blunder and neither person did last night. I would consider the debate last night a push. The GOP won in the sense that many were expecting Palin to bomb and she didn't. Other than that looming over everything, the debate was pretty run-of-the mill, IMO.

1. Palin falls flat and the election is probably decided.

2. Palin performs well and keeps things interesting.

I think Palin was a "winner" simply because she redeemed herself from the stumbling interviews earlier. Biden was a "winner" simply because he gave us pretty much what we'd expect, which more importantly means he didn't make any serious gaffes.

 

Both sides were "winners" in some sense of the word, but the debate itself was a push, IMO. If that makes sense...

 

Most debates are pushes, or pretty close, IMO...they're all the same to me.
