I thought Palin did about as good as the McCain campaign could have hoped--that is, she didn't have a brainlock moment and she recited the talking points she was given. She did come off, to me, as totally over the top fake 'folksy'. On one hand, I'm glad there isn't going to be another VP debate. If I have to hear her utter another forced "Gosh darnit", "dog gone it", "Joe Six Pack", or hear her make another empty "maverick" assertion, I think I'd be sick. Her performance gave the impression of rifling through her pre-rehearsed answers, many of which were strangely inappropriate for the question. What was up with that one question where she was asked about the mortgage crisis and hit play on her canned answer about energy? What the heck was that about? Didn't she have a canned answer about the mortgage crisis she could recite?

 

It says a lot about McCain's confidence in Palin that she apparently will not be having any more interviews and will not be made available to answer any questions from the press before the election.

Tough, tough reporting! She probably had his questions ahead of time. She certainly had the opportunity to go back and figure out how to answer the supreme court cases question and come up with some newspapers she "reads". I don't for one minute believe those responses were legitimate. There is absolutely no credible reason for why she would stammer though the Couric interview if she A) followed current events through recognized news sources and B) had any familiarity with Supreme Court cases.

 

If you consider the Cameron piece a genuine interview, I'm afraid you and I have starkly different standards. We still know practically nothing about her reasoning process, her base knowledge of major issues. The McCain campaign owes it to the American public to have those questions answered. I would love to see Palin on a Sunday morning talk show, although frankly I don't see it happening. She's already demonstrated that she is terrible at answering spontaneous introspective questions about complex (and in some cases noncomplex) subjects.

She finally answered the Katie Couric questions she chose to ignore with Fox News' Carl Cameron. It took her about a week, but she remembered she reads the liberal rags the New York Times and Economist.

 

I don't expect her to be giving impromptu answers until the election is out of reach, then she may as well save face for whatever political future she plans to pursue.

Remember the phrase "Reformer with results"? It was used by Bush in 2000. Notice how Palin keeps hitting the word 'reform' to plaster over the lack of relevant national policy experience?

 

Remember Bush's description of himself as "not of Washington"? Palin frequently describes herself as a "Washington outsider". Very populist.

 

Palin and Bush are eerily similiar. They both appear cocky, but unknowledgeable when pressed. They both run administrations cloaked in secrecy. They both make a habit of speaking in front of deliberately friendly crowds.

I have more confidence in the American people than you do. I do not believe that Americans are ready to put a socialist in the White House. If I am wrong, then Obama will have a very short honeymoon.

 

Assuming that Americans would be retain some constitutional rights under an Obama administration, talk radio and stand up comedians will be among the few people who will prosper.

Speaking of comedians, did anyone see SNL tonight? There opening skit was a spoof of the debate...hilarious!
