Mike Pereira, the NFL's supervisor of officials, said on his NFL Network show Wednesday night that he's talked several times to Hochuli, and the referee remains devastated. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Hochuli, an official for 19 seasons and a referee for 17, had e-mailed fans in San Diego and told them, "I failed miserably."

September 19, 200818 yr Human error is part of football at some point or another every team will take their lumps with it and then they will also reap the benefits from it some other time. He has more than owned up to it, he is one of the best. I don't feel like he failed miserably at all. I know I'm a Bronco fan but still from his viewpoint he had no idea and blew the whistle on what he thought was an incomplete forward pass.

Get over it and move on. :thumb: Mistakes are part of the game...from players, to officials, to coaches, etc...this one just happened at the end of a game and is more magnified. Hochuli, IMO, is one of the best officials the NFL has. This issue has been addressed and everyone needs to move past it...the NFL, the fans, the Chargers and Ed Hochuli himself. It's funny how a team can explain away a handful of bad calls that cost them points in some form or another over the course of a game as "part of the game" and say things like, "The officiating didn't cost us the game. We had our chances." However, in this instance, it's all the officials fault. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't...but, if they're going to say officiating cost them this game, then they need to start saying that when the stripes blow a call in the second quarter that costs a team a TD and they end up losing by 3 or 4 points. I realize it's magnified because it happened at the end, but the end result was that it cost them a TD. I can't tell you how many games I've watched where the officials have been directly responsible for points being scored or taken away with terrible calls (the 2005 Super Bowl comes to mind). People can say that they had a chance to make up for those mistakes...and so did the Chargers. They still had the opportunity to stop Denver from scoring a TD, and then a 2-Pt. Conversion. They failed both times. It's over. If the Chargers end up missing the playoffs by one game, they will have underachieved and I doubt they'll find any sympathy. That team has too much talent and the schedule isn't that difficult...if they miss the playoffs it will be their own faults. Not Ed Hochuli.

Yup. :thumb: Also, the "fumble" was on 2nd down & 10. It was ruled an incomplete pass, which brought up 3rd & 10. Then, the Broncos gained 4 yards bringing up 4th & 6. They convered that 4th down, then scored and then went for 2. Hochuli isn't the only one to blame.
