Rezko Reality: McCain misfires as he attacks Obama's home purchase

Recommended Posts

So we should always assume someone is guilty if they are being investigated? I wasn't aware of that.

Barack talked the owner of the house down, there's nothing new there. People do that all the time.

Barack paid over $100,000 for a 10 ft strip of land...I don't think he got a good deal there.

So Rezko, who was a professional developer, couldn't talk the owner down a few bucks on the empty lot but old Barack talked them down 15% on the house next door? Come on, you weren't born last night were you?

So now you are suggesting that the former owner of the house did a favor for Barack by selling him the house at a 15% discount? Why would he do that?

No, I am saying it was more like this...

Owner is selling house and lot for combined price of $2,575,000. Obama wants the house so he approaches Rezko about buying the lot. Owner wants to close on both the same day so Rezko offers asking amount of $625,000 and BHO offers $1,650,000 for a total sell price of $2,275,000. Why would the owner care, they are still making their money.

Real estate deals like this are a common way of "nuancing" bribes. One party buys property, such as a contractor, and then sells the same property at a discount to a second party to obtain preferential treatment. Eventually, the second party may sell the property for a handsome profit. (Depending on how property appraisals are done, the second party may also save thousands of dollars on property taxes.)

If the buyer and seller are careful, using intermediaries such as relatives to make the transactions, the government or shareholders never have a clue that a bribe has been offered and accepted. Doing a deal on adjacent properties for such a purpose in the buyer and seller's own names would be "bone headed."

I am not saying that Obama and Rezko used the property to avoid a direct bribe, but the transaction is suspicious, given Rezko's subsequent conviction for bribery and this matter should have been explored by the media during the Democratic primaries. Had the media been doing its job, a thorough investigation would have been done.

Obama continues his campaign of intimidating media outlets who are willing to criticize him. Nobody should doubt that the Fairness Doctrine will be reborn if Obama becomes President with Pelosi and Reid calling the shots in Congress.

Obama campaign confronts WGN radio

DENVER -- Sen. Barack Obama's campaign organized its supporters Wednesday night to confront Tribune-owned WGN-AM in Chicago for having a critic of the Illinois Democrat on its air.

"WGN radio is giving right-wing hatchet man Stanley Kurtz a forum to air his baseless, fear-mongering terrorist smears," Obama's campaign wrote in an e-mail to supporters. "He's currently scheduled to spend a solid two-hour block from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. pushing lies, distortions, and manipulations about Barack and University of Illinois professor William Ayers."

Kurtz, a conservative writer, recently wrote an article for the National Review that looked at Obama's ties to Ayers, a former 1960s radical who later emerged as a school reform advocate in Chicago.

The magazine had been blocked in its initial attempts to obtain records from the University of Illinois at Chicago regarding a school reform initiative called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which Obama chaired and Ayers co-founded.

Obama critics were quick to suggest that political clout could be involved in seeking to protect Obama from embarrassment. The school later reserved its position and made the records available Tuesday.

I read that article this morning. Do you know what Kurtz found, if anything, in the reports? I can't find anything on it.

There were so many documents to review, I doubt that he is close to finishing. Whatever Obama is afraid might turn up in those files apparently has his people pretty nervous

As I said, no single politician can direct money to a political supporter without cutting some deals with fellow politicians. That is true in most scandals. Rezko and Obama were close associates. Believe what you want but I do not believe that Obama's only act as an Illinois State Senator to help his buddy Rezko was writing a single letter on his behalf.

Rezko is a convicted felon and he was an active supporter of Barack Obama and profited from the association. Those are the stubborn facts of the matter.

What is being implied is bribery. Proof of wrongdoing? Or just innuenedo (again).

Do you also believe the Bush family's powerful Texas connections were responsible for Dubya's improbable refuge in the Texas ANG during Vietnam?

The shady real estate deal with a convicted felon is a fact - not innuendo. As much as Obama would like to run against a third Bush term, it is not going to happen.

If you want a lesson in character assassination, just read the email that Obama's organization sent to his supporters. Reading Obama's so-called rebuttal of Jerome Corsi's best-selling book, Obama Nation. Obama is using the same tactics against his critics as John Kerry did. Attack the author and avoid addressing the content of the allegations.

Obama's e-mail about WGN-AM

It is absolutely unacceptable that WGN would give a slimy character assassin like Kurtz time for his divisive, destructive ranting on our public airwaves. At the very least, they should offer sane, honest rebuttal to every one of Kurtz's lies.

Obama was willing to lose a war to win an election. He also seems perfectly willing to run roughshod over the US Constitution to get to the White House. His attempts to intimidate the segments of the media that is attempting to actually do its job is just another good reason to just say Nobama!

Once again, he had not even been charged with a crime at the time.
Once again, Obama was a close friend of Rezko and Rezko was one of Obama's biggest financial supporters. Rezko was under investigation by a grand jury at the time of the suspicious real estate deal and Obama said that it was a "boneheaded" decision.

Obama is not on trial (at least not yet) - he is in a political campaign. "Where there is smoke there is fire" is not enough to convict a person in a criminal trial but it is certainly reasonable to smell the air and look for a fire before casting your vote.

And the same could be said about John McCain and his shady friends.

Shady is a term used by someone who has failed to prove illegality. You have no proof of bribery, so you resort to insinuation with terms like "shady". If you have no proof of a law being broken, you have innuendo.
