As I said earlier, if marijuana were made legal and proven to be of the same harm or less harmful that alcohol, would you have a problem with someone occasionally smoking it ?

I already stated my opinion on it.

See Post #62.

You must not know many; there are lots of respectable professional people who do little more than an occasional or even a daily joint, the same way a white collar worker might unwind after work with a martini or a blue collar joe knocks back a beer or two. It only becomes a gateway drug if the user doesn't have the self-discipline to keep it from escalating. It's just as fallacious an argument as those who suggest one drink makes you an alcoholic.

Disagree. Beer is a gateway drug to stronger types of booze. So in cheeba. I have never met a single person in my life (not saying it hasn't happened though) that started shooting up heroine, blowing coke etc before first gettng high on marijuana. They liked the feeling of getting high, then upped the anty.

Personally I think a lot of it is in your mind, getting high that is. I used to sell fake pot in grade school. It was dried white clover flowers, go burn it to see what I mean. The few of us that knew it was fake acted high, and magically everyone that smoked it got high too. Art only $1 a joint! I think that's why they call it dope!

Personally I only smoked it once, the day my dad died because I couldn't get off work and I smoked on the clock at Suburban hospital out of revenge. Ehhh.

Common Marijuana Myths and Facts

http://www.drugpolicy.org/marijuana/factsmyths/

You're quoting a commercial enterprise that sells books about how pot is okay? These are not facts, they appear to mostly be opinion. My favorite is: Marijuana use can be prevented. MYTH. Not every kid is a simpleton who does something just because you say not to, which is what this book they are peddling sells. Otherwise, kids would break every other law as well. Was I the only kid who didn't do drugs because I was told they won't do anything to help me? Apparently marijuana is a wonder drug and we may as well put our kids on the stuff, since they are too stupid to listen to us anyway.

I just love how narrow minded people are when it pertains to this subject. I've heard everything from freaking out, to having hallucinations, to all other kinds of things. BUT ONCE AGAIN NOT CONDONING IT, but by being a four year college student as well as growing up (as a quote on quote popular kid hanging out with the older crowd and with the in crowd as some would say) I have had more exposure to this type of thing then I am assuming many trashing opinions on the issue.

Hallucinations are for like LCD, Shrooms, what not, I've never saw anyone flat trip out after smoking marijuna. In fact (and like I said sadly I have had a lot of instances being around it) all I have seen people do is smoke it, be more relaxed, perhaps talk a little bit more, and actually talk a little bit more in depth about issues, and basically just be normal other than the fact they seem much more at ease with themselves and are much happier.

Because of having to experience people like this on numerous occasions I will never see it as wrong. I mean I have never saw anyone trip out, get stupid, or do uncontrollable things, instead just be more pleasant to be around, be a lot happier, and certainly more easy going. And lord if those things are so so so so bad that it is far worst than a drunk trying to start a fight or a drunk abusing his family then we live in a wrong society.

If they knew how to tax it, it would be sold at Walmart.

Marijuana effects your mind, regardless of the specifics (hallucinations, etc) I cannot understand how you could say that is OK for people to do it just because it makes them better to be around. That is just sad for those people who need it. If they need it to be a certain way then it is addictive, hence the word and I stress the word NEED it. I would hate to live my life knowing I am much happier on dope than without it. GEEZ.

Main reason its not legalized IMO. Government cannot control it or make money on it, so they keep it illegal.

I just love how narrow minded people are when it pertains to this subject.

I just love it when people call people narrow minded when they don't conform to things of the world.

Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it

Don't many alcoholics start out with beer? I know many alcoholics who just like you describe the potheads.

Don't fall back on "its illegal." That would make for a short discussion. Why is it illegal? Are you OK with me drinking until I'm drunk as long as I don't harm anyone or get behind the wheel? I'm not going anywhere. I'm just going to sleep it off on my couch.

You keeps saying don't fall back on it's illegal, but you fall back on comparing it to alcohol. There is realy no connection between the two, otherwise you need to compare it to all other drugs. What about prostituion, should we make it legal? I know who here thinks we should. We could use the tax revenue to help fund schools, like our gambling money! :thumb:

Here's who it hurts. Most drugs can ultimately be traced back to some bad people, like mexican drug cartels and Al Qaeda for example. Yes, good old american drug users help fund terrorism. Afghanistan's terrorist are funding their war on the drugs they sell. Look at all the murders in mexico over drugs, where entire families are wiped out. Pablo Escobar bomber a Avianca commercial airliner, killing 110 innocents, just to get the guy who was trying to stop his drug trade. He wasn't even on the plane.

Then there are thousands of american cars stolen every year and taken accross the border to use for drug running and gangs. Gangs which exist because of drugs. These gangs like to kill our border agents and drug spies too.

So I think it does hurt when americans sit on their couch smoking weed. Sorry to be a "Debby Downer", but...

I too have seen people who were high on marijuana. I have seen people act stupid while on it.

I have seen a guy get high, throw up all over his room, and then strip naked and sit on his roof in the middle of winter.

I have seen a guy get high and then drive his car into a street sign, then a ditch. Yes he was arrested.

I have seen a guy get high and then proceed to swing from someone's hanging plants off of their front porch.

Yes, maybe some people relax, "chill out", talk more, or talk about more in-depth issues, but I have also seen people act like complete fools.

I have also seen and been around an experience where someone got a bad batch of weed that was laced with something. The guy did trip out. We, the others there, realized he had gotten a laced bag of pot when he started claiming that the clock was melting. He spent the rest of the night in a bathtub full of cold water because he started sweating profusely and claiming that he was burning up. We watched him and luckily he was okay, but this same guy, who once was a "social pot smoker" went on a couple years later to get hooked on cocaine, eventually landed himself in rehab. I met him again a couple years ago (a year after he got out of rehab) and he was one of the saddest people I have ever seen. He was completely fried. What was once a smart guy with limitless musical talent had become a shell of his former self.

Ive never said anyone needed it. I have just said I have been around people who like to smoke a little marijuana the same way some people like to have an occasional beer. And instead of them sitting there wide mouthed and asking what was the conversation about I have instead experienced people bringing up very good conversation, and with no trace of being spaced out or whatever some may think. A lot of people are under the assumption people who smoke get high as the moon and can't control themselves and laugh and talk stupid stuff and cant keep up with conversations. From the people I have been around though instead of getting high, they just get calmer and more relaxed, and less stressed. What's so bad about that.

The mind effects caused is when people smoke it does slow parts of your brain down momentarily, thus causing you to be more relaxed and less stressed, etc. However, after 2-3 hours these effects are gone, your brain is back to normal and there is no more long term health risks associated. Basically works the same way on the brain as someone on anti-depressants however marijuana gets a bad rap by outlandish people who want to keep it something evil when actually its not.

Marijuana effects your mind, regardless of the specifics I cannot understand how you could say that is OK for people to do it just because it makes them better to be around.

Alcohol also effects the mind. It effects the mind in a much more destructive way. I've never met an angry pot smoker. Ever watch an episode of cops when they have to deal with someone who is high ? The person typically giggles and calmly slides into the back seat of the cop car. The drunk on the other hand typically screams obscenities and makes a scene that usually ends up in the person being tazed.

No one is talking about addiction here. I believe many are talking about occasionally doing this. Believe it or not, many adults are capable of having a good time every now and then and not NEEDING to do the same exact thing the next night.

Let's compare it to fast food. I don't NEED to eat a double cheese burger from McDonalds. I'm not addicted to them. Every time I eat one, I'm fully aware of the weight gain it could cause me and the fact that it's generally just not that great to put in my body. I eat it anyway. Why ? Because it tastes good of course. Just like I like to go out with the guys and have a few beers, heck, maybe even a few too many on a saturday night. I think it's fun and thats why I do it. It doesn't mean that I'm an addict.

Sad and I hate to hear about your friend. But I have never witnessed anyone act this foolish and I have been around people who smoke it for almost the past seven years, and have been put in many situations in that time frame as to where I was around it. Late high school and college will do that to ya if your in the social scene.

Of course its not for everybody. I haven't been saying that everyone should do it, I am just saying that there are plenty of responsible people out there who know how to act and know how to control themselves, the same way people who drink now their limitations and are cautious with it. It's all about how you can handle it, again its not for everybody, and neither is drinking. However, some people are made out to look like monsters just because a habit they have and keep in check without letting it affect their lives is looked upon poorly, or because some idiot who would act crazy regardless if they smoked/drank anything or not. I hate to say this or bring it up because people a lot of time think we live in a world that only young punks or bums are all that waste their time with this stuff when they fail to realize even the doctors, lawyers, city executives, business heads, so on and so on who serve them occasionally also like to come home and burn one down..So like I said, its all about how you can handle it, and of course its not for everyone.
