You can go over all you want trying to compare it to alcohol but fact of the matter is there is not 1 good reason for the legalization of marijuana.

I really don't want to get into that discussion and threadjack but there are plenty of other threads on here with multiple good reasons if you would like to look back at them.

What you do in your own home and out of the public eye where you can't hurt anyone doesn't bother me one bit.

Because it's no more harmful than alcohol (and probably less so), and instead of wasting gadzillions of taxpayer dollars hunting it up in the DB National Forest they could instead undercut the illegal trade of it by taxing and regulating it. The reason marijuana was made illegal in the first place, as was noted earlier in this thread, was to have an excuse to deport Mexican immigrants early in the 20th century.

Glad you caught that Jim. People tend to not know that because of that along with the Reefer Madness movement marijuana went from being accepted to frowned upon.

 

All I am going to say that is if it was okay before, why do people still think that it is bad because 30's propaganda said it was bad. Now er are smart enough to know the truth and get the facts, but people still do not want to believe them because of what their ancestors from the 30's down have told them. I guess you can say Reefer Madness is the most influential movie ever being that it has caused modern people to still believe in things that are not true. So pretty much what I am saying is that if our ancestors in 30's laughed at the film and called it bogus (which we now know it is) then marijuana would in present not be looked at as bad. However, since the lies and depictions of the film scared so many people, it has been passed down as a bad thing. Oh if some of us could go back in time what a lot of hassle we could spare.

And, really, it isn't my business to tell people what to do so long as they don't, by doing it, infringe on my ability to do what I want.

Marijuana effects your mind, regardless of the specifics (hallucinations, etc) I cannot understand how you could say that is OK for people to do it just because it makes them better to be around. That is just sad for those people who need it. If they need it to be a certain way then it is addictive, hence the word and I stress the word NEED it. I would hate to live my life knowing I am much happier on dope than without it. GEEZ.

 

 

Very interesting topic, to say the least. And I'm not at all surprised how the poll is going. As for myself, I don't smoke. Have I? Yes. Do I drink beer? Yes. Which do I believe is more safe, I would have to go with the one that's illegal.

I do know a lot of people who smoke, and have for many years. Some are doing great, some are not. I have lost a few friends over the years, but none died from smoking pot. On the other hand, my older brother, golf buddy, Uk fan, Reds and Bengals fan, the one I enjoyed going to most sporting events with, was killed by a drunk driver seven years ago.

 

Again, I'm not smoking the stuff. But if were legal, the beer sales would decline in my opinion. One last thought on this matter. For all those who are so against it, I would venture to say there's a few people who you know very well that smoke, you just don't know it.

My Grandfather grew up in Columbus he smoked plenty of weed and stayed drunk, and now he is a multi-millionaire and we run a successful business in our area....So your assumptions about dope heads has been proven wrong many times!!

 

I have never smoked dope, cigarettes, but I have gotten drunk one time..

 

Let me tell you something there are prescriptions that are far worse that freak you out than weed

 

I took 2 Zoloft and I hallacinated for a week....

 

I don't have a problem with it, but I don't have to do it thats my position...

As a mental health therapist, I have a problem with anything that is mind altering. There is no reason to do this if you are not having problems that you are trying to cover up. It is called "self medicating". I did not read all the posts, however, I can say this....anything bought illegally is not legal LOL....I don't think that is something that anyone would want in their file when trying to obtain a job. I know that one of PH's ex-home health RN went through drug testing at the hospital...guess what?! She had consumed pot and now, with student loans still needing to be paid and two children at home, does not have a job. She will never work as a RN at our hospitals again. What a waist of time going to college and paying all that money to not be able to do what she liked!!!

If you took Zoloft and did not need it for a mental medical disorder, than yes, it just might effect you that way. Parents have been known to take their childrens Ritalin for speed....this same drug slows down or controls hyperness in children and adults. If you don't need a medication then don't take it....it could cause a lot of problems or things to happen that you are not looking for.

But it concerns to that, the plant was put here for a reason. You tell me another plant that has 1000+ uses such as the Cannabis plant?

Everything from building materials to bonding material, to rope, and everything in between can be made out of it and very cost efficient. So there has to be a purpose the plant is here. Also tell the chemo patients that are prescribed it to not smoke it and see what they say, point is the plant has more uses than any other plant on this planet, so its obvious why many regard it as a sacred plant, and why many religions feel it is Gods plant.

 

Same could be said for fossil fuels and plutonium, both have many purposes, including bombs.....:lol:. We could do this all day about many naturally available planetary resources, products that serve many different purposes, or can. It doesn't mean they should serve every purpose they can.......

Not always. Police use quite a bit of discretion when it comes to small amounts of pot.

 

There are differences between police using discretion and the law. Mostly being trafficking and posession laws. With some being based upon discretion.
