Name a good reason for legalization?

 

Why is Pot illegal but alcohol is legal when the out come of alcohol is awful when taken to the extreme? I know people who smoke weed that you would never know they are high,and I know people who drink and they drink a lot and you would never know they are drunk. So why is one ok and ones not? I am not condoning it but I like my adult beverages. Not one for weed but if someone is..they effects can go both ways for either weed or alcohol.

There have been arguments, valid is a matter of opinion. I don't consider the "alcohol is just as bad or worse" argument valid. I would have no problem making alcohol illegal or at the very least restricted. However, it can be pointed out that alcohol is used by some because they enjoy the taste, especially at meals, or that it is considered an anti-oxident and, in moderation, good for the circulatory system.

 

Pot, on the other hand, has no purpose other than getting high. (If you have cateracts or are on chemotherapy, you are excluded). How can you defend a substance whose only purpose is to affect one's ability to be in control of one's self?

You are padding the pockets of the drug dealer who supplies you your drugs, allowing him to buy even more drugs such as cocaine, which he in return sells to some young kids, who in turn overdose and die. Therefore you are endangering the lives of many.

What if you grew your own plants?

Only if it's laced with something.

Then weed doesn't make you hallucinate, what ever drug it is laced with makes you hallucinate.

Everyone ask yourself this question also, those who are supporting this.

After they are grown adults, that would be their own choice IMO (if it were legal).

I'll refer my kid to be a kid at 18 and 21 and I wouldn't want him doing this, I cannot believe others would be ok with it either if it was legal or not, it makes you hallucinate. How can you say you would be alright with watching your 18 year old son having hallucinations? This is just mindblowing to me.

 

I've never heard anyone tell me they have hallucinated while smoking marijuana.

I think some folks would be amazed at who and how often people are smoking the ganja. I do not condone it and think its a big waste of time and can lead to overeating LOL. However, I am amazed at how many people that I personally know that use it recreationally and behind closed doors. I am not talking about Joe Construction worker either, I am talking about people that hold professional positions.

 

I guess everyone has their own way of coping with society.

I take it as a weakness and a charactor flaw. If you need a drug (and I include alcohol) to relax or have a good time, you need to look within yourself and your personality to find what is wrong.

 

In addition, personal experience with young people who use marijuana, most notable is the loss of ambition and I've never met one who realized it until they quit using.

 

There is a big difference between need and want. If someone wants to come home and drink some beer and even get drunk, that doesn't mean there's something wrong with them.

I just love it when people call people narrow minded when they don't conform to things of the world.

I would think wanting Marijuana legalized would technically be not conforming :lol:.

You keeps saying don't fall back on it's illegal, but you fall back on comparing it to alcohol. There is realy no connection between the two, otherwise you need to compare it to all other drugs. What about prostituion, should we make it legal? I know who here thinks we should. We could use the tax revenue to help fund schools, like our gambling money! :thumb:

 

Here's who it hurts. Most drugs can ultimately be traced back to some bad people, like mexican drug cartels and Al Qaeda for example. Yes, good old american drug users help fund terrorism. Afghanistan's terrorist are funding their war on the drugs they sell. Look at all the murders in mexico over drugs, where entire families are wiped out. Pablo Escobar bomber a Avianca commercial airliner, killing 110 innocents, just to get the guy who was trying to stop his drug trade. He wasn't even on the plane.

 

Then there are thousands of american cars stolen every year and taken accross the border to use for drug running and gangs. Gangs which exist because of drugs. These gangs like to kill our border agents and drug spies too.

 

So I think it does hurt when americans sit on their couch smoking weed. Sorry to be a "Debby Downer", but...

Sorry to be Debby Downer, but if it were legal a lot of those problems might not exist. Banning something (ex. Prohibition on Alcohol) often times creates more crime.

I too have seen people who were high on marijuana. I have seen people act stupid while on it.

 

I have seen a guy get high, throw up all over his room, and then strip naked and sit on his roof in the middle of winter.

 

I have seen a guy get high and then drive his car into a street sign, then a ditch. Yes he was arrested.

 

I have seen a guy get high and then proceed to swing from someone's hanging plants off of their front porch.

 

Yes, maybe some people relax, "chill out", talk more, or talk about more in-depth issues, but I have also seen people act like complete fools.

 

I have also seen and been around an experience where someone got a bad batch of weed that was laced with something. The guy did trip out. We, the others there, realized he had gotten a laced bag of pot when he started claiming that the clock was melting. He spent the rest of the night in a bathtub full of cold water because he started sweating profusely and claiming that he was burning up. We watched him and luckily he was okay, but this same guy, who once was a "social pot smoker" went on a couple years later to get hooked on cocaine, eventually landed himself in rehab. I met him again a couple years ago (a year after he got out of rehab) and he was one of the saddest people I have ever seen. He was completely fried. What was once a smart guy with limitless musical talent had become a shell of his former self.

Could have been hash laced with Heroin. You cant rule out anything these days.

While that quote is funny, it could also be used for Cocaine, since it too comes from a plant. :lol:

Having poured over this thread I find 2 things interesting, neither frankly having to do with the topic.

 

1. I am amazed at how folks misconstrue God's Word to justify their stance. Even if what they support brings reproach on the body of Christ.

 

2. I continually find it amusing how folks will post any garbage they found on any website that supports their stance. I think that argument can be made when you site credible sources, not when you site a nickel and dime commentary with little or no scientific study or research.

 

One other point and I'll bow out of this one. To compare the harm of alcohol (currently legal and easily accessible as well as socially acceptable for the most part) vs. the harm of marijuana is comparing apples to oranges. Amount of use I would think would be remarkably different because of those issues and difficult to compare. In my opinion, if marijuana were legalized, you'd see similar #'s in traffic fatalities and the like. Of course, I have no scientific method to prove this, but logically, I suspect that those #'s would increase. Also, one item that can't be accounted for is this,,,,and when I was in college, the folks I knew who smoked pot also drank at the same time. I doubt you'd be able to get appropriate data because of that factor alone.

 

I lied, I have one last thing for me personally. I've never smoked weed, and frankly, one reason I never tried is that it smells worse than anything on the planet. I'd rather smell Tink's 69, body odor, or an SBD than that junk. But for some I'm sure it smells great!
