I've read your posts on here for a while. I know you're a smart guy. I know you realize that my point deals with "why one (alcohol) but not the other(weed)?"

Which is currently legal and which isn't, has to be given consideration, true?

Arguments for legalization

1. Product could be regulated and taxed

2. Is it the governments' right to tell us what we can and can't do in the privacy of our own home?

3. Alcohol and marijuana are similar in terms of health effects

 

Arguments against legalization

1. From a philosophical standpoint, the idea that "what I do in my own home effects no one" is bogus. It at least affects what we think about ourselves, which in turn affects our actions towards other. (NOTE: whether that is a problem here, I don't know. Just pointing out the invalidity of that argument).

2. Marijuana is a gateway drug

3. Harder to test and detect than alcohol (for things like Impaired Driving)

 

As a borderline-Libertarian and someone who doesn't do drugs, I am certainly in a bind here.

Comes a time, when a man must decide choosing something because it's right and not wrong.

 

Remember, character is doing the right thing, even when no one is looking (per J.C. Watts). We could debate what if this was not legal, on any issue but isn't the intent of using wack-backy, to get high. I think most would agree.

 

Then why make something legal, which sole purpose is to alter ones mind and rationale judgment.

You can cite these references all day but I was under the impression that someone said you cannot go to jail. You will go to jail but may not have to serve time, there is a difference. I know that with a marijuana possession there is no mandatory jail time but once you get arrested you go to jail and like I stated earlier, you'll go to jail.

Not always. Police use quite a bit of discretion when it comes to small amounts of pot.

Nobody will ever convince me that pot is a gateway drug. It's completely the persons personality, environment and genes from everything I've ever experienced.

I've seen people really drunk and I've seen people really high. Really drunk people are much more dangerous IMO...

I'll refer my kid to be a kid at 18 and 21 and I wouldn't want him doing this, I cannot believe others would be ok with it either if it was legal or not, it makes you hallucinate. How can you say you would be alright with watching your 18 year old son having hallucinations? This is just mindblowing to me.

I can not even believe this is a discussion. No you can not do illegal stuff in your home and expect it to be ok and be allowed...

 

 

Marajuana has bad effects on people, there are numerous studies that prove so. It may not be as bad as other drugs but it's still really bad and there's a reason for it being illegal.

Here's another question I think could be interesting, if you had to pick one of the two (pot/alcohol) to be illegal and the other legal, which one would you chose?

There is much more to the discussion than that, if bad effects on people were the only reason pot is illegal, then alcohol would be illegal as well.

You can go over all you want trying to compare it to alcohol but fact of the matter is there is not 1 good reason for the legalization of marijuana.
