Actually, Owings would likely be ticketed for first base if the Reds ever looked in that direction ... the Diamondbacks were considering using him there occasionally, but Conor Jackson stepped up his game.

 

Owings' bat is for real ... he was a big-time two-way star in college.

 

In that case, Votto would probably head to left field.

I would have liked to see Dunn stay, but as you stated, if the return will help this club sooner than later....

 

Be anxious to see, who the players are.

 

Me too, I wanted to keep Dunn but am realistic as well in that they are trying to dump payroll. I agree on wanting to see what we (Reds) got in return. They had better be good if not, the Reds gave Dunn away. I wish Dunn nothing but the best, this makes Arizona with Dunn (some Greenup,Ky. family ties), Ashland, Ky. native B. Webb and am pretty sure they have another player from the EKY area, just can't think of the name right now.

 

(I still want a good catcher!! )

Not Griffey, but Dunn. Big Papi stated it best when Manny left. Pitchers are afraid of giving up a HR to Dunn, so they pitch around him, he gets on base, and then gives the rest of the offense a chance to drive him, unfortunately that never happened. They also do not want to put the man in front of Dunn on base so they don't give up a 2 run HR, so they give some pitches to hit to the person in front so they get them selves out.

 

Same thing with Manny and Big Papi. Papi got pitches to hit because the pitchers did not want to put him on base for Manny.

 

I understand the logic behind that one and it makes some sense but IMO the Reds are better off turning the page without Dunn+Griff.

If you are just looking for a HR hitter then Barry Bonds is begging to play ball. There is more to the game than just hitting the longball IMO. To many people get caught up with it. Dunn could mash but he also struck out A LOT and wasn't consistant. On top of that he was bad in the field. Griffey was just flat out bad. I like both of them, wish them well but am glad the Reds are making a move to surround the youth movement. They now have prospects + money with a lot of young talent. That is exciting for me as a longtime Reds fan.

People forget what money can do for you. When you are in the running you have the ability to go out and get players like the Manny's, Texiera's and Dunn's if that's who you please. The Reds had money tied up with no shot of competing. I'd rather have the youth, prospects and money to spend if I'm in the race than have overpaid players on bad teams with no hope.

Another DUMB move by the REDS front office. I hope Mr. Jocketty has a plan in place, but it seems to me that he does not! The list of upcoming free-agents is not a great list by any means!

No, I don't but it goes much further than Griffey or Dunn. I honestly don't know what all it will take or where to begin.

 

This is just a really, really,really bad baseball team. They have some young talent with plenty of potential. There (it seems to me) is absolutely no leader in the clubhouse or on the field. I hope as all fans that things can get turned around but I have to say I have not seen any of it. they have a couple of pieces but need so much more. As with anything this bad, imo it all starts at the top. Same ol' pre season promise with the same pathetic results......Last or close to it!

Reds = Pirates, both are very bad baseball teams. This Reds team even got their butts handed back to them by Leatherpants and the Nats.

 

I hope to see the Reds turn things around but I am seriously doubting if they will anytime soon if ever.

I don't think they'll be contenders for the next 8-10 years. It's going to be a lot of heartache for the Reds and their fans the next few seasons.

And how is that different from the last 8 years? I like the move if for no other reason than I can get aggravated at different faces next season.

Is there more to moving Dunn and Griffey than the baseball issues: overall ability;

salary reduction. There has been a lot of discussion about 'creating a new culture'.

Were Dunn and Griffey influential around the team and the clubhouse, without being

the acknowledged 'leaders', that Reds ownership/management took steps to correct

the 'culture'...to plant the seeds for not only a 'new look Reds', but a 'new attitude

Reds'. And I don't mean that in the sense that Dunn and/or Griffey were necessarily

attitude problems themselves, but rather, a fresh start for everybody? Looking for

a Bruce/Votto/Phillips to one day step up and be the acknowledged team leader?
