August 13, 200818 yr Castillo looks like depth at the C spot. His numbers are decent and he's 24. No doubt Leatherpants blocked Owings as one last shot before he's fired...Or maybe he has some legitimate interest in Owings ... if I had that team, I would.
August 13, 200818 yr As it plays out, I agree. Arizona made a really bad deal...It's way too early to make that call ...
August 13, 200818 yr Or maybe he has some legitimate interest in Owings ... if I had that team, I would. That will be his "cloak of invisibility" on this one. He built that team, is 6 weeks away from working at the WWmisL and fired one last shot at the Reds. Bad GM? Yes Connected enough to know Owings was the main guy in the deal? Zero doubt. If I knew it, CTR knew it and several other local sources knew it, LP was all over it as Coupon21 was posting the waiver claim days ago...
August 13, 200818 yr It's way too early to make that call ... Nope. If they get nothing from any of the guys landed, they avoided a nasty arbitration decision and in turn moved on from the "entitlement" era...
August 13, 200818 yr Horrible trade... Just like the Red Sox giving up a future Hall of Famer for Jason Bay? Since then the Red Sox are 8-3 and Jason Bay is hitting .319 with 13 runs scored and 9 RBIs since the trade. The Reds had no control over Dunn after this season and they seem to have made out pretty well.
August 13, 200818 yr Nope. If they get nothing from any of the guys landed, they avoided a nasty arbitration decision and in turn moved on from the "entitlement" era...And if Dunn helps the Diamondbacks make it to the World Series, and if the Diamondbacks lose Dunn to free agency and get two draft picks for him ... heck, we can play that speculation game all day long. At this point, that's all it is ... speculation.

At this point, that's all it is ... speculation. They still have to offer him arbitration to get picks. Should be interesting to say the least...

At this point, that's all it is ... speculation. Yeah, but they have to offer him arbitration to get those draft picks. If Dunn really likes it in Arizona he might take them up on it and make a mess out of their projected 2009 outfield. Too many variables at this point. If the Reds had offered him arbitration he might have accepted and crippled the payroll next season, even if he didn't they would only have gotten 2 picks for him. This way they get 3 players so their odds are better and Dunn might still be available if Reds Nation  , both of them--is still in love with him--just pony up some money.
August 13, 200818 yr Maybe the Diamondbacks offer Dunn arbitration, maybe they don't ... if he helps them to get to the World Series without giving up any of their elite prospects, that is far from a horrible trade.

Don't we have to wait and see who the PTBNL are? Let's see first. If only one prospect makes it for a month and a half rental on Dunn isn't that worth it?
August 13, 200818 yr Don't we have to wait and see who the PTBNL are? Let's see first. If only one prospect makes it for a month and a half rental on Dunn isn't that worth it?I'm talking about the deal from the Diamondbacks' standpoint ... and I said "if" because we don't know for sure who the other two players are.
August 13, 200818 yr I'm talking about the deal from the Diamondbacks' standpoint ... and I said "if" because we don't know for sure who the other two players are. According to the Enquirer Owings is definitely one of them. http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080813/SPT04/308130002/1071
August 13, 200818 yr Author According to the Enquirer Owings is definitely one of them. http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080813/SPT04/308130002/1071 But was he really claimed? Not a huge deal I know as it's not going to matter this year, but still...I'd like to see him get in here. As you all know I was Donkey's biggest supporters. With the package they got, if it really does include Owings, I can't possibly be mad. Time to move on.
August 13, 200818 yr Author That being said I am still a big fan of Adam Dunn and wish him nothing but the best! I will follow him closely.
