August 11, 200818 yr If the Reds are going to compete with a smaller payroll, they have be more efficient with their money than spending 20 mil on Adam Dunn. He may be worth that for a team with the payroll, but not the Reds, IMO. I'm glad they finally blew up the Griffey/Dunn Redlegs...completely. That obviously wasn't working. Jocketty will have the Reds competing if the fans will be patient. He's not been here long and he's made some nice moves, IMO.
August 11, 200818 yr All I say is that the D-Backs will not resign him, maybe the Reds can inquire to resign him. They will be putting that Griffey money to good use if so.

August 11, 200818 yr Without being privvy to the conversation, my guess is that when Castellini sat down with Walt from the get go, I'll bet Walt and Bob agreed to give this team a little rope, if it hung itself, as it most definitely has, Walt had the green light to blow it up and start over. Just my guess.
August 11, 200818 yr I'm going to say, I am leaning towards thinking this might be a good move for the Reds. We told them all year it would happen and needed to happen, I guess Walt listened to us, us being the smart Reds fans.

August 11, 200818 yr I don't get what you think you caught me on????I think it was kinda obvious. But let's not worry about it. Onward and upward...
August 11, 200818 yr Give me a break. You were belittling the posters who were "worked up" over nothing, just as they do "every year". This time you were wrong. Defend all you like. Bingo! :thumb:
August 11, 200818 yr I think it was kinda obvious. But let's not worry about it. Onward and upward... And you are way off base...
August 11, 200818 yr Bingo! :thumb: You'd think that'd be your last post after the "onward & upward". Just couldn't resist could ya?
August 11, 200818 yr Another sad day for Reds fans. IMO it's not the fact that Dunn or Griffey is gone. It is the fact that we sit with the Reds ripping up the team and saying hey "we are going to gut this team and rebuild a new one." How many times must the fans hear the word rebuild. The Reds said they were rebuilding for a new team and that they looked to have a strong team as they moved into GABP. I have yet to see that team and when we have came close we either had not made a deal or simply took are selves out of the loop. The Reds got what they wanted new ballpark high ticket prices 20 bucks in some spots to park, yet I'm not seeing winning baseball. When the Reds show me some positive energy to win and respect the fans I may get back to the ball park.
August 11, 200818 yr Labs backed me up right after that. Almost every player is put on waivers after the trade deadline. Until a deal is worked out its not a big deal at all. All that him being claimed meant that was the DBacks had exclusive trading rights. Him being claimed is not a big deal they could have just done it to block someone else. It doesn't mean a deal was imminent. In this case it was worked out. Doesn't change anything. I see it the same way as you and did back then. I don't remember you talking down to people either, but I'm not going back through to check. Virtually every player goes through the same process in August.

Would you rather blow it up and get it right or suffery with mediocraty for another 5 years before they make the right moves? I like Dunn and his bat will be tough to replace to an extent. Griff was doing nothing and was a great move IMO. Dunn stirkes out a lot and isn't consistant. He is bad in the field too. There are tons of guys that can play outfield. Go get lowball pitchers with speed + defense. People are going to hit homers in Cincy even if they aren't big HR hitters.
