Posts: 17,841 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I got a good chuckle reading this thread and seeing everyone get so worked up. This happens literally every year. Oops! What I said is still true. I was laughing b/c There were people thinking he was gone just b/c he was claimed. I don't get what you think you caught me on???? These things do happen every year. A deal was worked out, ok. Like I said, never said her wasn't claimed.
August 11, 200818 yr A new rookie catcher and no true #1 starter. We have no proven power hitter in a hitters dream ball park. WOW Go Reds!! The Reds were in the top 3 in the league for homeruns for a couple of years in a row, and last place....
August 11, 200818 yr This day marks the dawn of a new era for the Reds. I have been waiting for what seems like eons for this day to arrive. Go Reds!

August 11, 200818 yr Author Really, there's no shame in saying that you're wrong. It happens. It's okay. :walk: What was I wrong about? The original post said they had until 7 to make a decision to let him go or not. That wasn't true. He was claimed (happens all the time) and they had a 48 hour window to work a deal. They got a deal done.
August 11, 200818 yr Over on the D'Backs board, their reaction seems to be a mixture of being upset and confused. Thankfully a couple Reds fans have posted to let everyone know exactly what they are getting.

You were belittling the posters who were "worked up" over nothing, just as they do "every year". This time you were wrong. Defend all you like.
August 11, 200818 yr Author Give me a break. You were belittling the posters who were "worked up" over nothing, just as they do "every year". This time you were wrong. Defend all you like. Labs backed me up right after that. Almost every player is put on waivers after the trade deadline. Until a deal is worked out its not a big deal at all. All that him being claimed meant that was the DBacks had exclusive trading rights. Him being claimed is not a big deal they could have just done it to block someone else. It doesn't mean a deal was imminent. In this case it was worked out. Doesn't change anything.
August 11, 200818 yr I guess my ticket connection is now knocked down to a few days a year. This sucks Or you could buy a $7 ticket and sit virtually wherever you wanted.

August 11, 200818 yr Trading a 40 homerun guy is silly. Now all we have is a bunch of .240 hitters who can't hit it to the warning track. No more of my money will be spent at the ballpark.
August 11, 200818 yr The more I think about this trade, the more that I like it. If Dunn was to remain a Red (as I had hoped), he could have potentially killed us again with how much money he'd be making. We've already gone down that road, and we cannot afford to sign Dunn when CoCo is making the type of money that he's making. The pitcher that the Reds got in return is recovering from Tommy John Surgery, which is always a little scary; however, TJS is not nearly as threatening to a career today as it used to be. In fact, many young pitchers return relatively quickly and actually throw harder than they did before. A lot of this deal hinges on who the Reds get in the 2 Players To Be Named. Even if those 2 players are not great, this deal will free up a lot of money and give us plenty of time to move forward. Also, it gives Brandon Phillips a chance to become the leader that he has said he wants to be. We'll see what Phillips is made of. Griffey & Dunn are gone, and so are 93% of the excuses.

The Reds are close, to becoming the Pirates. Hope the fans don't fade away.

I think the Reds are much closer to becoming the Brewers than they are the Pirates (although their record is no indication).
