I think what CCH is saying is that the Catholic church is the original church, and therefor is responsible for the initial spread of Christianity.

I don't remember reading about the Catholic Church in my Bible.I read about Christs church.The first churches had elders and deacons but no pope and were individually run by their leaders at the local level.

The Catholic Church is not a denomination. It is Christ's Church. "Catholic" is an ancient word that means simply, "universal." The Catholic Church is, by name, the universal Church.
