May 1, 200818 yr My 7-year-old son has committed to the University of Kentucky today. He said he chose UK over Duke because "only sissies go to Duke". He led his pee wee basketball team in scoring, rebounding, assists, and Little Debbie snack cakes ate after each game. He was also first in the hand shake line more than any other player on his team. He hasn't qualified academically but he did make a 100 on his spelling test Wednesday and made a 95 on his units test. "I like Kentucky because the big furry cat on TV that goes to the game looks cool. Plus, my grandpa says Kentucky is where the real good players go," my son said. Incredibly, no word has been received from the UK coaches concerning their latest verbal.:lol::lol:

His level of competition was low. He hasn't really competed at the D1 level. Not a McDonald's AA, although a McDonald's fan. And those grades are obviously inflated! What is Gillispie thinking?!

May 1, 200818 yr It's simply sad that they really rank 8th graders......... I agree. I know it will not happen because of the AAU circuit and money, but I wish recruiting were delayed until Junior years of High School. These kids have no way of being kids any longer.

May 1, 200818 yr This kid in this article was once the "next big deal" when he appeared in Sports Illustrated as a middle-school player. He quit growing and is now no longer the "next big deal." Things change. http://hsi.pe.com/pages/centerpiece/stories/walker.html
May 1, 200818 yr Nope... I'm guessing he's about 12 now and was in the news a few years ago when the Washington Post had this (sad) story. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/03/AR2006070300718.html
May 1, 200818 yr It's simply sad that they really rank 8th graders......... OK, daddies, it's time to start really putting the pressure on those elementary schoolers. Gotta get that scholly! I hate AAU.
May 1, 200818 yr Taylor King committed to UCLA before his freshman year but ended up going to Duke. Now he is transferring from Duke.
May 1, 200818 yr The odds of this holding up are not great. This is unprecedented, but definitly not a likely situation!
May 1, 200818 yr If the kid continues to develop I'm all for it. Now way of knowing that though. If Billy G is already filling up spots in the 2012 class, the off seasons are going to get really boring. It's going to be weird when we already have projected started lineups for the next 10 years.
