I think that there are a few that work extremely hard. As long as they can only take the students that live within their district, they will be behind on the state level. Every time a school get up to around 1700 in this area, we build a new school. For instance, I am pretty sure that a student approache Ryle about attending last season who was moving in around independence. He was told that they could not accept him while living out of district, so he went to another school in the area that could accept him out of district. Any way you would like to add it up LN, those kids make a difference.

Name one school in the state that has 3,000 boys? The misinformation spewed outside of Louisville about T and X has never been so evident.

So for the record Marshall County who won Region 1 6 A has 746 to St. X's 1,404. Still a bit lopsided, but there's not much choice

That aside, I still say the best public, small school football is in Western Kentuycky.

Who can compare with Beechwood - that's easy Mayfield. I doubt if any one school throughout the state can compare with Highlands' successes, but we're talking about the AREA here and if you put together the successes and histories of schools like Paducah Tilghman, Bowling Green, Hopkinsville, Christian County, Madisonville, Owensboro (who by the way beat Boone County at Boone County this year) - that's pretty good football.

The smaller schools like Fort Campbell, Murray, Mayfield, Russellville, Trigg, Caldwell, have all won multiple state championships.

I don't think any other region has the number of historically good public programs.

As far as 6 A goes, well the west doesn't have that many 6A schools, and certainly none with 3,000 boys.

NKY and Louisville.

Highlands, Cov Cath, Beechwood, NCC, Boone

 

Trinity, St X, Male, Manual

 

After that I go with Central KY based on 3 teams:

 

Lex Cath, Danville, Boyle, (add in Henry Clay, Mercer, Lincoln as good programs)

 

The Mountain area (however you define it) is good but I don't think they are as good as the Central Region.

Wow - the big city bias. Just because the LCJ only covers Louisville and Northern Kentucky schools doesn't mean that's where the best football is. The best priviate school football - probably, but for plain old small town (public school) football its Western Kentucky.

 

Who have you beaten in the playoffs? Tilghman is down, Hoptown is down, Mayfield is in a championship drought. Meanwhile Eastern Kentucky is waaaaaay better that 20 years ago. Bell, Johnson Central, Corbin, Breathitt, Russell to name a few.

Tilghman lost on a last-second field goal to the eventual state champions. A lot of programs would like to go through the "drought" experienced by Mayfield, which last won a title in 2002.

 

Fort Campbell just won a state title and Owensboro Catholic has made the finals twice in the last four seasons.
