First of all, Russell isn't in the mountains. And when you take them out of the picture, the remaining teams you're promoting haven't won a state championship in any of the last three years in the lower classes. And only one mountain team (Belfry, 2007) has reached the finals in that time, a period which covers seven games.

 

On the other hand, northern Kentucky has won three titles in that span ... Newport Catholic has two and Beechwood has one.

I agree 100%! Silver Grove has about 495 inhabitants...

 

Don't forget Independence, Edgewood, Newport, Alexandria...

 

 

For me it's a tie:

 

NKY and Louisville.

Highlands, Cov Cath, Beechwood, NCC, Boone

 

Trinity, St X, Male, Manual

 

After that I go with Central KY based on 3 teams:

 

Lex Cath, Danville, Boyle, (add in Henry Clay, Mercer, Lincoln as good programs)

 

The Mountain area (however you define it) is good but I don't think they are as good as the Central Region.

I will take Boyle County/Danville. One town 20,000 people, really good football. Football players per capita, I would go with them.

 

Not too mention the success of neighboring county schools: Lincoln County, Mercer County and Harrodsburg.

I know we are talking about which region in the state has the best overall football programs. And, I know there are certain areas that are rich in football talent and perform really well. It may sound like a safe answer, but there is truly some great football being played all over the state.

 

I'm not saying that one region is better then another region, but the level of competition all over the state has increased dramatically over the last five to ten years. I think you can go to most any region in the state on a Friday night in the fall, and see a really good football game.

 

Football as a whole in the state has gotten better, and I think that is what we all want. You still have the perineal powers and you still have the schools that are struggling, but you have more of the schools that are playing good football that are either in a very strong district, or just need that one component that would push them up to the dominate level.

I would have to disagree. That would mean that there are only about five kids a year in the program that didn't live in Ft. Thomas. Reguardless of which, their drawing area is much larger than 17, 000 residents. However, they are historically the best team in the state of Kentucky.

The thing that has changed in the last 15-20 years is the quality of football in Eastern Kentucky. I think that region has now passed Western KY out of last place.
