I will take Boyle County/Danville. One town 20,000 people, really good football. Football players per capita, I would go with them.

 

I would say that the NewCath/Highlands proximity rivals that, and CovCath/Beechwood.

You may be right. But you also might be wrong. The last three were in AAA (maybe you forgot that). As to the first two:

 

1999, maybe you are right. But it's not like they were chopped liver. Bobby Leffew, Travis Leffew, Jeff Duggins, Matt Quinn, Taylor Begley, Matt Miller just to name a few.

 

2000 I would highly debate. The above guys (Minus Bobby Leffew) along with Brodie Overstreet in the line and couple that with another year of maturity. (If not for a broken leg in the 4th game of the year it would have included a Sophomore by the name of Jacob Tamme)

 

I know those were two great Highlands teams with many talented players but just because Boyle was an AA team those two years doesn't automatically relegate them to 2nd rate. Add into the mix that the 2000 Boyle team beat the Class A Champion (14-1) Danville Admirals 47-0 and you've got a good argument in their favor.

I'm not trying to slight Boyle, but there aren't many teams in KY history that would have matched up well with them. They beat Trinity, they got robbed versus Elder, and they ran roughshod through 3A. The finished in the USA Today Top 25.

Louisville is its own area of the state... I think most people in Kentucky can agree on that.

Brodie went to Wake Forest and was redshirted his freshman year. His first year of eligibility he was the starting OG on the line. About 3/4 through the year he suffered a detached retina. It never healed. He was never able to play football again. It's not often that a Redshirt Freshman starts on an ACC team in the line and his injury ruined a very promising career.

 

I've always thought that the line play was as big a contributor to Boyle's run as anything. When you consider how strong those lines were they were as much a factor in their dominance as anything.
